In the throes of a bloody war, the latest eruption in a decades-long conflict
that has defied generations of negotiators and in which both sides have made
terrible mistakes, now might seem like the least opportune time to think of
peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Not a temporary cease-fire or another
uneasy truce but a durable settlement.
