The first Highland Titles Nature Reserve, opened in 2007, is made up of
thousands of plots which are supported by a global community of Lairds, Lords
and Ladies. This land is free to visit but for the best possible experience we
recommend that you become a Lord or Lady of Glencoe.
This reserve, located just 10 miles from the historic Glencoe, is also an
established 4 star visitor attraction and we encourage you to visit and see the
progress your support has made possible.

DUROR, NEAR GLENCOE
The first Highland Titles Nature Reserve, opened in 2007. Located close to the
historical Glencoe, the reserve is one of two Highland Titles reserves and is
also an established 4 star visitor attraction.

VISIT THE RESERVE
Whether you’re dropping by to visit your plot or just looking for a beautiful
place to spend the afternoon, the Highland Titles Nature Reserve is a must-see
attraction in the area. Our nature reserve is within 1 hour of 3 of the most
iconic places in Scotland: Glencoe, Ben Nevis and the Glenfinnan Viaduct.
Our Meet and Greet Service is a very popular with visitors and allows our Lords,
Ladies and Lairds to visit their plot of land with an enthusiastic and
knowledgeable guide.
This service must be booked well in advance as this is run by our very busy
volunteers. Particularly in summer months, we can become fully booked sometimes
months in advance. If you purchased 10 square foot, then a voucher is included
in your pack. Alternatively, tickets can be purchased before you visit.

TRANSPORT
ARRIVE BY CAR
The Highland Titles Nature Reserve is located off the main road (A828) between
Oban and Fort William in the Highlands of Scotland. The nearest village is
Duror, and the nearest Post Code is PA38 4BW. Parking at both Nature Reserves is
free.
NEARBY AIRPORTS
* Glasgow (2 hrs 15 mins)
* Edinburgh (2 hrs 45 mins)
* Inverness (2 hrs 30 mins)
ARRIVE BY BUS
Citylink coaches leave from Edinburgh and Glasgow regularly for Oban and Fort
William. The 918 service between these towns stops at the Reserve. Ask to be
set down at “Dalnatrat Road End” and walk 300 metres north along the cycle path.
A good option is to take the Skye Citylink bus from Glasgow Airport to
Ballachulish Visitor Centre. This is a short walk from the Isles of Glencoe
Hotel where we hold our annual Gathering. They can arrange a local taxi to take
you to the reserve.
ARRIVE BY RAIL
The nearest train stations are Fort William (approximately 20 miles away) and
Oban (approximately 25 miles away).

VISITOR FACILITIES
We have a small shepherd’s hut which we use as a reception area for guests.
There you will find

* Volunteers – ready to take 4×4 tours for those who have pre-booked with a
voucher!

We also have the Laird’s Lodge – a back-to-basics shepherd’s hut offering simple
accommodation in the middle of our nature reserve.

THE HIGHLAND TITLES NATURE RESERVE STORY
1992
First tree planted
The first trees were planted at Glencoe Wood in 1992 under a Woodland Grant
Scheme ‘Special Management Grant’.
2006
The Highland Titles Nature Reserve is launched
In late 2006 Highland Titles purchased 220 acres of land at Duror, near Glencoe.
This land is now known as The Highland Titles Nature Reserve, an official 4*
tourist attraction and according to TripAdvisor, the most popular nature reserve
in Scotland!
2007
Visitor Centre is built
We needed somewhere to store our tools, nuts for the bird feeders and pigs, as
well as somewhere for our volunteers to dry off and have their lunch. The
visitor centre was built entirely by volunteer labour and using local materials
where practical. Doors and windows were donated and we are very proud our this
snug retreat.
2007
We Started Planting Trees!
Reintroducing native trees to the Nature Reserve is an aim of Highland Titles,
progress started in 2007.
2008
Five Year Plan is published
Transforming this land into a Nature Reserve was clearly a long-term project and
required a Five Year Plan, which was published by Dr Peter Bevis in 2008 and
completed in 2013.
2013
A Year of Firsts!
We started work on the first Lochan, planting trees and we gave our first Guided
Tours in August 2013.
2014
Nature of Scotland Awards 2014 Nomination
The Glencoe Wood project was nominated for the Nature of Scotland Awards 2014 –
an event organised by RSPB Scotland and sponsored by The Crown Estate.
2015
TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence
The popularity of the visitor experience is evident from over 100 5-star Trip
Advisor reviews, which resulted in our being awarded the Certificate of
Excellence every year since 2015.
2017
More Development at Glencoe
We built our first Wildcat enclosure and added a new Reception area with a small
shop for visitors.
2018
A Special Visit..
National Geographic visited our Nature Reserve(!) and our Forever Home for
Injured Hedgehogs was built.
2018
Started Creating The Cycle Path
Always wanting to give back to the local community, the introduction of a cycle
path through the reserve was a welcome one to give back to the area.
2021
Giving Back To The Forest
We have started felling the non-native Sitka Spruce to replace with native trees
to Scotland to replenish the land and wildlife at the Nature Reserves.
2022
Breaking Records!
Our Bug Hotel at the Highland Titles Nature Reserve, Duror has been awarded a
Guinness World Record with the biggest bug hotel in the world!
