OVERVIEW OF CHECK BAD SECTOR

A bad sector is a sector on a computer’s hard drive that has been damaged and
has lost the ability to write and retrieve data. Bad sectors can sometimes
corrupt your saved data as well as slow down your computer. In order to improve
the performance of your computer, you can use the Check Bad Sector function to
make sure that you hard disk has no errors.

AOMEI Partition Assistant also provides the feature to check bad sector for your
disk or partition. However, this function can only find the bad sector not
repair it. There are dozens of ways to fix bad sector, the most effective one is
to subdivide the bad sector into an independent unallocated space or use other
repair tools.


PREREQUISITES FOR CHECK BAD SECTOR

 * Download and install AOMEI Partition Assistant on a Windows computer.
 * Attach the drive on which you would like to check bad sector.


HOW TO CHECK BAD SECTOR STEP BY STEP WITH PARTITION ASSISTANT


TO CHECK BAD SECTOR OF A PARTITION

Step 1. Choose a partition that you want to check, right-click it and choose
"Advanced"> "Check Partition".



2. Select the way of checking errors to perform. As you can see from the
following screenshot, there are three choices, simply choose the last one "Check
whether there is bad sector on the partition" . And click "OK" to go to next
step.



3. Click the "Start" button to check. It will display bad sector counts on the
drive and the remaining time. You can also click the "Quick Check" to check bad
sectors in a faster way.

 

4. After the check process has been finished, you will find normal and damaged
sectors are displayed.


TO CHECK BAD SECTOR OF A DISK

The process of check partition and check disk are roughly the same. That is to
say, checking bad sector for disk shares the same steps with check bad sector
for partition. The only difference is appeared in the first step. 
When you are going to check bad sector of a disk, the first step is to click on
the disk which you want to check, and then choose "Test"> "Disk Surface Test".
The remaining steps of this operating are all the same with check bad sector of
a partition.



 


CONCLUSION

Following the above steps, we can check and find bad sectors on a partition or a
drive. It helps us to inspect the drive condition.

This feature is usually used to search and find bad sectors if your drive gets
some issues, such as, the drive is with slow read/write speed,  errors occur
frequently when writing and reading files, or a disk has problems with missing
files and folders not opening, and so on.

Notes: Depending upon the size of your disk, the checking process may take you
few minutes to work out.

Q: How long will it tale to finish the check process?

A: The time to finish the check process depends on drive size and bad sectors on
the drive. It might be stuck if there are too many bad sectors. To check in a
faster way, you can click "Quick Check".

Q: Could the feature "Check Partition" be used to fix bad sectors if bad sectors
are found?

A: This feature is used to check and find bad sectors on a partition or drive.
It is unable to repair or fix bad sectors directly. You can use other repair
tools to repair bad sectors.

Q: After I use the "Check Partition" function to repair the partition, the
program still prompts that there are errors in the partition, how can I solve
it?

A: It is recommended to use the chkdsk command that comes with Windows to repair
the partition.
