Get the latest PlayStation®3 console system software update. 


PS3 SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATE 4.90

An update to the PlayStation 3 system software was released on 28/02/23.

In order to download the update, you need a minimum 200MB of free space on
either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC
Update). 

Always update your PS3 system to the latest version of the system software. By
updating, you can enjoy additional features, improved usability, and enhanced
security.

Please note, to play Blu-ray discs, your PS3 console needs a renewed Blu-ray
player encryption key. Please update your PS3 console's system software to the
latest version to renew the Blu-ray player encryption key.

PS3 System software features


VERSION 4.90

This system software update improves system performance.

VERSION 4.89

Signing in to PlayStation Network now requires a device password for enhanced
account protection.


Account creation for PlayStation Network and some account management features
are no longer available on the console. Use your PC or mobile browser to use
account management features with improved performance, speed, and safety.

VERSION 4.88

This system software update improves system performance.


HOW TO UPDATE PS3 CONSOLE SYSTEM SOFTWARE

You can update the system software of the PS3 system using the methods below.

Update using the internet


Download the update data directly to the system from the Internet. The latest
update is automatically downloaded.

 1. Select Settings > System Update.
 2. Select Update via Internet. Download the latest update data from the
    Internet. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the operation.

Update using a computer


Right click and select "save as" to start the download. 

Download PS3 Update
 1. Using a PC or Mac, create a folder named "PS3" on a USB drive formatted as
    FAT32.
    Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE".
 2. Download the update file, and save it in the "UPDATE" folder you created in
    step 1.
    Save the file with the file name "PS3UPDAT.PUP".
 3. Plug the USB device into your PS3 console and go to Settings > System Update
    > Update via Storage Media.


HOW TO REINSTALL THE PS3 CONSOLE SYSTEM SOFTWARE

In some cases, such as after initializing your console, you may need to
reinstall the system software. 

Reinstall using a computer


Right click and select "save as" to start the download. 

Download PS3 Update
 1. Using a PC or Mac, create a folder named "PS3" on a USB drive formatted as
    FAT32.
    Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE".
 2. Download the update file, and save it in the "UPDATE" folder you created in
    step 1.
    Save the file with the file name "PS3UPDAT.PUP".
 3. Turn on your PS3 console and plug the USB device into the console. 
 4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reinstallation.

Notices

 * Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play without first
   updating the PS3 system software.
 * Do not perform updates using any data other than the official update data
   provided by Sony Interactive Entertainment over a network or on disc media,
   and do not perform updates by methods other than those described in the
   product documentation or in this site. If an update is performed using data
   from another source, by another method, or with a PS3 system that has been
   altered or modified in any way, the PS3 system may not operate properly and
   may not be able to install the official update data. Any of these actions may
   void the PS3 system warranty and affect your ability to obtain warranty
   services and repair services from Sony Interactive Entertainment.
