Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck issued a statement Thursday saying the
district attorney's office was taking the case seriously, and that there was
nothing criminal about the shooting that left two people dead: Garcia. Garcia
has alleged that officers were acting recklessly. Beck's statement on Thursday
said the officers in the 2013 incident, and those who fired on Garcia, should be
identified to the public. It comes in the wake of a fatal police shooting of
24-year-old Christopher Garcia in December, when a police officer had to be
revived after allegedly being shot in the back.

The charges, filed Thursday afternoon by the DA's office, are one of nine cases
in the county's grand jury. Beck said at the time that there were potential
charges in the case.

In that case, a grand jury determined that the responding officers who called in
shots into Garcia's vehicle should not face disciplinary action - and a
prosecutor dropped charges. Russia's chief of general staff, General Valery
Gerasimov took part in a meeting of Russia's military chief, Gen Sergei Shoigu,
in Moscow on Wednesday. The grand jury could potentially take more cases with
officers charged in the 2011 case, when two officers fatally shot a man near
Santa Monica's Old Towne Mall but the officers were not charged. If you have any
