OVERVIEW

The Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence at Colby is the first
cross-disciplinary institute for artificial intelligence (AI) at a liberal arts
college. The Institute facilitates interdisciplinary, human-centered scholarship
using rich datasets with real-world consequences and prepares students for a
future where AI is transforming industries, careers, and modes of discovery,
creativity, and scholarship. AI shapes all our lives; we should all be informed,
critical AI tool users and tool builders.

-MODEL CURRICULA-


NO-CODE INTRODUCTION TO AI

In January 2022, DavisAI offered a no-code introduction to AI titled AI: What
Lies Beneath. The purpose of the course is to introduce students to AI
applications, methods, and problems through a project- and reading-first
approach. The curriculum for this course is freely available here, and the

-SCHOLARSHIP-


AI FOR THE DIGITAL HUMANITIES

A recent article in Colby News described the work of Colby faculty Hong Zhang
and Ying Li on creating an AI-supported digital archive of Chinese magazines,
the Colby China Studies online database. This is one example of several digital
humanities projects at Colby. Students working on the project include Colby
senior Changling Li, who will start at xx in the summer after graduation.

COLBY ECONOMIC OUTLOOK FEATURES AN AI APPROACH

Dr. Michael Donihue was awarded a Davis AI curriculum development grant to
redesign his forecasting seminar. He and his students compared atheoretic
machine learning methods and structural econometric modeling for the purposes of
forecasting and policy analysis. A summary of their work can be found in the
2022  Colby Economic Outlook: An AI Approach.
