LEARN MORE ABOUT THE HEAL ACT → Every person should be able to get affordable health care no matter how long they have been in the U.S. or the status they have been granted. But because of unnecessary policy barriers, immigrants have to navigate a complicated patchwork of care that often forces them to pay out-of-pocket. The HEAL for Immigrant Families Act will help immigrants get the health care they need by removing the xenophobic restrictions that prevent them from being insured and disproportionately harm Black, Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, and other immigrants of color. Learn more and take action → MEDICATION ABORTION STUDY We’re researching the abortion needs of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders because this information doesn’t exist for our communities. This two-year study, using focus groups, interviews, and a nationally representative survey, will focus on understanding how AANHPIs think and talk about medication abortion, their experiences with medication abortion to terminate their pregnancies, and barriers to accessing medication abortion. More about the study → We’re currently recruiting for virtual and phone interviews! Participants will receive a $50 gift card for their time. We’re looking for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders who: * are between the ages of 18 and 49; * were assigned female or intersex at birth; * and have used medication abortion since the year 2018. HELD ON JUNE 23 - A CONVERSATION WITH ASIAN AMERICAN WRITERS' WORKSHOP ABOUT CREATING SPACES FOR AAPI VOICES In collaboration with The Asian American Writers' Workshop (AAWW), we presented a conversation about the importance of radical storytelling with panelists who are redefining what Asian diasporic literature looks like today. Aug 9, 2021 Aug 6, 2021 Washington Post, "Under Trump, OPM withered. A new director hopes to revitalize the agency." Aug 6, 2021 She emphasized her commitment to reversing racist progress in opening remarks to reporters, citing the “economic and racial reckoning that’s taking place in this country.” She was “very much involved” in those issues “on the philanthropic side” during the height of protests against police violence last year. Before leading OPM, she was CEO of Philanthropy Northwest in Seattle, after serving as founding executive director of the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum. Meng’s leadership to create family-positive work environments so working parents aren’t forced to live in the endless cycle of choosing between our livelihoods and the well-being of our families.” Aug 4, 2021 Aug 2, 2021 Politico, "Opinion: The Next Step in Protecting Asian Americans" Aug 2, 2021 Both Congress’ bill and the White House’s new initiative paint with too broad a brush and fail to focus on three groups within the AAPI community that are uniquely vulnerable to acts of hate, discrimination and violence: women, small businesses and older adults. If leaders really want to protect and boost opportunity for AAPIs, their future initiatives should laser focus on these members of the community. Aug 2, 2021 Jul 30, 2021 The Hill, "Women of color are gaining political power. Here's what they want to do with it." Jul 30, 2021 After turning out in record numbers for the 2020 presidential election, women of color made it known that their voices would not be silenced. But making them heard is still not easy. Phillip Jun 14, 2021 This brief is a follow-up to the brief we filed in 2019, asking that the court uphold the lower court's decision in favor of Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, and explains the harm to women of color, who make up a disproportionate number of Medicaid beneficiaries, that would result from South Carolina's actions. Jun 14, 2021 Jun 4, 2021 Letter of Support for Tana Lin Jun 4, 2021 Not only will Ms. Lin be the first Asian American district court judge on the federal bench in the state of Washington, but her career demonstrates she would bring unique perspectives as an immigrant woman of color to the bench.
