  Welcome to the Applied Geometry Lab webpage!


 

  The Applied Geometry Lab at Caltech is located in Pasadena, California. We
approach computations from a geometric standpoint in order to provide numerical
tools that intrinsically respect key defining properties like symmetries and
invariants. In particular, we focus on discrete differential modeling, i.e., the
development of differential, yet readily-discretizable foundations of
computations, with a wide spectrum of applications from discrete geometry
processing to solid and fluid mechanics.

We work in close collaboration with Professor Yiying Tong's GiG group from MSU,
Professor Jin Huang's group from Zhejiang University, Professor Victor
Ostromoukhov and his collaborators (David Coeurjolly and Nicolas Bonneel) from
CNRS/LIRIS, Lyon (France), Professor Xiaopei Liu from ShanghaiTech University,
and Dr Pierre Alliez's TITANE group from Inria.

Our research is sponsored in large part by the National Science Foundation
(CAREER, CARGO, CMMI, CPA G&V, ITR, EAGER, and ERC grants), the Department of
Energy, the Okawa Foundation, and by gifts from HTC, Pixar Animation Studios,
Walt Disney Animation Studios, Intel, and Microsoft.

Recent updates:

> As on January 1st 2021, the Applied Geometry Lab at Caltech goes on indefinite
> hiatus, moving its operations to France at Inria/X.
> Desbrun has been elected ACM Fellow 2020. He is still in denial, and blame his
> students for it.

> August 2020: Python code for our parallel transport unfolding approach
