 1. YOUR LETTERS FOR MAY 31, 2022

What about the rights of the deceased? Re: Double-killer won’t face
consecutive prison sentences, May 28 I respectfully submit that the
punishment (murder) that Robert Leeming inflicted upon his two victims far
outweighs the cruel and unusual punishment (as defined in the Charter) the
Supreme Court has decided would apply should he be given two consecutive
parole terms. Sadly, the Charter relief Robert Leeming has been granted is
no longer available to Jasmine Lovett, and her daughter, Aliyah Sanderson,
because the court has determined that his cruel, unusual – and permanent –
punishment of them is superseded by the punishment that two consecutive
parole terms would inflict upon him. In what world do our “appointed”
justices live? Bob Mackan, Strathmore Canada best place to live I prefer
living in Canada and paying higher gasoline prices than living in the
pretend democracy that the U.S. offers, and being afraid, all of the time.

 2. BREAKENRIDGE: TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE AND NOT VERY TRANSPARENT, THE THIRD-PARTY
ADVERTISER DISCLOSURES WERE OF LITTLE VALUE

It’s unclear whether the changes to the Local Authorities Election Act were
designed with specific outcomes in mind. If so, it’s safe to say that last
October’s elections didn’t deliver what the UCP might have hoped for,
certainly not in Alberta’s two largest municipalities.

 5. WHAT DOUG FORD HAS THAT JASON KENNEY DOESN’T: FULL COMMENT WITH ANTHONY
    FUREY

Ontario endured strict and lengthy pandemic lockdowns, especially compared
to Alberta’s much lighter touch. But conservative voters seem ready to
reward Doug Ford’s Ontario PCs with re-election while, out West, angry
conservatives in Alberta have driven their premier from office. Hamish
Marshall, a former national Conservative campaign manager, joins Anthony
Furey this week to discuss how Ontario’s political culture has shifted since
COVID and how Ford — unlike Kenney — has captured the conservative mood in
his province, all while stealing traditional supporters of the Liberals and
    NDP. (Recorded May 26, 2022)

 6. OPINION: HOW YOU CAN REDUCE THE THREATS TO BIRDS IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD

In spring, we welcome the return of migratory birds to Canada to breed. A
few billion birds from over 400 species breed in Canada each year. Before we
know it, young birds will be leaving their nests, awkwardly learning to
navigate the world around them. Like me, you may enjoy watching them from
    your window.
