2022: A new name, expanded vision, and bigger impact - what a year!

As we wrap up 2022 and look back at everything Scene accomplished this year,
there are a lot of wins to celebrate. Still, none of it would be possible
without the fantastic Scene team, our clients, our investors, board members, and
of course, the patients we serve on a daily basis.

For this year’s recap, we’ve put together our top 5 highlights of the year to
reflect on the year and celebrate our achievements.


1. NEW YEAR, NEW BRAND.

We rebranded from emocha Health to Scene Health, reflecting our commitment to
seeing each individual at the scene of their health. The rebrand was an enormous
undertaking over a year in the making and was only completed thanks to the
committed effort of our team members and design partner, Pentagram. After
bringing the new brand to the HLTH conference this year, we couldn’t have been
more pleased to hear such wonderful feedback from the market.  You can read more

2. SIX NEW PEER-REVIEWED JOURNAL ARTICLESS FOR A TOTAL OF 18!

In 2022, six new peer-reviewed journal articles using our program were
published, bringing the grand total to 18! Too many digital health companies
make claims about the validity of their programs but don’t back it up. We are
committed to validating our program with peer-reviewed research and we continue
to invest significant time and resources into this initiative.

The studies published in 2022 were wide-ranging, covering a multitude of disease
states and conditions, including asthma, hepatitis C, methadone treatment,
adolescent heart transplant recipients, and tuberculosis. For more on our

We also secured an additional $1.5M in funding from the National Institutes of
Health to deploy and test our program to help kidney and liver transplant
recipients, bringing our NIH funding to a total of $6.1M since 2016.


3. CONTINUED AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS

We were honored to receive multiple awards and recognition from four respected
organizations. In January, the Baltimore Business Journal named Scene Health
(formerly emocha) one of the top five Baltimore-area companies to watch. In
July, we swept the inaugural Shark Tank-style awards at NCQA’s Digital Quality
Summit, taking the top prize for Best in Show and The Game Changer. In August,
we were recognized for Medication Adherence Management in three 2022 Gartner
Hype Cycles. And in November, we were named as a Rising Star finalist for the
UCSF Digital Health Awards in the New Telehealth Innovation Category.


4. EXPANDING OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM, AND PREPPING FOR FURTHER GROWTH

To position Scene for future growth, we added two strategic leaders to the
company in 2022 and expanded the roles of other leaders.

Our new CFO, Erica Drohan, has more than a decade of experience across business
development and financial strategy, having served as VP of Finance for Perch, a
technology-driven commerce company that has acquired and operated over 100
brands while raising over $900M from investors such as SoftBank and Spark
Capital.

Our new VP of Marketing & Communications, Steven Cutbirth, MBA, MSHCT, has 10+
years of experience in digital health, most recently serving as Head of
Marketing at Point Health, and has previously worked with Fortune 100 healthcare
companies on analytics-driven marketing through his time at leading healthcare
agency, Real Chemistry.

In addition, we named Thomas McMahon, JD, Chief Operating Officer; Jordan Hadas,
MBA, was promoted to Chief Product Officer; and Amy Cummings, MBA, MSN, RN, was
promoted to Senior Vice President of Business Development & Client Success.


5. WE TRAVELED FAR AND WIDE SHARING OUR WORK  

2022 also kept the Scene Team busy at several events, some in-person and some
virtual, as we participated in over 20 events this year. In fact, our marketing
events coordinator is pretty sure our exhibit booth has traveled to more states
than she has. Below are recaps from a few our favorite events:

WHAT’S NEXT?

After a full 2022, we turn toward 2023, and we’re eager to see what the next
year brings as our first full year as Scene.

One thing is certain, we will continue our commitment to empower every patient
to take every dose of medication properly by building trust through
person-to-person connections that support health, every day.

Thank you for your continued support as we tackle this important challenge. We
mean it when we say, we wouldn’t be here without the support of our clients,
team members, investors, board members, and patients who motivate us to solve
the decades-old problem of medication nonadherence.
