SOLITAIRE RULES

The Solitaire rules are simple and easy to follow. In Solitaire Social, you will
get matched with another player with the same card deck. Your goal is to finish
sorting the deck before the other player. Sorting the deck helps you score more
points. Once the time is up, the player with the higher points wins the game.
The “Social” in Solitaire Social means you will participate in tournaments and
competitions with other players and earn prizes. It’s a PvP (player versus
player) version of classic online solitaire, so you’ll never get bored!

HOW TO SET UP SOLITAIRE

Setting up a game of solitaire isn’t a complex process. Follow these steps:

 1. Lay out seven cards on the deck. Lay the first card face-up on your left
side and the next six face-down on the right side.
 2. Place one card face-up on the second row and five face-down on the remaining
    rows. Observe the emerging pattern and repeat this step for all rows;
they’ll follow a staircase pattern with the last card of each row facing up.
The seven rows form your “tableau” where most gameplay will occur.
 3. Place the remainder of your card deck above the second first row. This will
    act as your “stock”.
 4. Create room for a discard pile, known as “waste” or “talon.” This is where
you’ll discard any card you draw from the stock you can’t use. You also need
room for a “foundation” pile that you’ll use while clearing cards from the
tableau during gameplay. Both piles are initially empty, so you must reserve
    space for them.

Congrats! You have set up your contest.

HOW TO PLAY SOLITAIRE

Solitaire strategies are simple to understand. The tips to note include

 1. The objective is to move all cards to the foundation piles in ascending
order, beginning with an ace and ending with the king. The winner is the
first player to get their cards on the foundation piles according to this
     order.
 2. When you start a new round, check if any top card is an ace and immediately
     move them to the foundation.
 3. After moving a top card to the foundation, you’ll see the face-down card
below it. You can then turn your new top card over to find out what the
card beneath is. Moving cards to the foundation whenever possible is
advisable, as it boosts your chances of winning.
 4. If there are no more cards to move from the foundation, move cards from one
tableau to another when possible. This is permitted when the card being
moved is lower than and of a different color than the card it’s being moved
     to.
 5. You’re free to move several cards simultaneously as long they are in
descending order and alternating colors. Keep placing cards atop each other
on the tableau until there are no more moves to make.
 6. You can take cards from the stock pile and move them face-up to the waste
pile if there are no more moves to make. This allows you to use the top
card in the waste pile. Solitaire Social lets you draw cards one by one
from the waste pile at a time. But a Facebook-based version of the same
game lets you draw three cards at a time; it’s called Solitaire 3 Social.
 7. If you run out of cards in the stock pile, just take the waste pile, turn
it over, and make it your stock pile, then you’re free to draw again.
 8. If there’s an empty tableau, you can move a King into it to start a new
tableau. It must be a King; no other card can start a new tableau unless
     you have a Joker card.
 9. Focusing on the larger stacks is advisable before moving to the smaller
ones. This will increase your chances of getting cards that’ll help you
build the correct sequence. Likewise, you should play Aces and Twos as soon
as you get them because they increase your chances of winning.
 10. Repeat the steps above to arrange the cards on the foundation pile in
ascending order starting with an Ace and ending with a King. Arranging the
cards scores you more points, and the player with the highest points once
     the time is up wins.

The same tips outlined above apply to a traditional Solitaire game. The
difference is that you’ll play the conventional one alone. While playing
Solitaire Social you’ll always have an opponent to conquer.
The average time for a Solitaire Social round is two minutes and 22 seconds. The
average for other types of online Solitaire depends on many factors, so we can’t
give an accurate estimate.

Solitaire Card Game - FAQs

HOW DO YOU PLAY OLD-FASHIONED SOLITAIRE?

 1. Understand the game’s objectives; to create four stacks of cards in
    ascending order.
 2. Look at the cards facing up. If you see any aces, place them above the
stacks to begin your foundation cards. If there are no aces, rearrange the
    cards that you have.
 3. Each stack should alternate in color and move in descending order.
 4. Keep placing cards atop each other until you can’t move anymore.
 5. The first person to arrange the stacks perfectly wins the game.

WHAT IS THE BASIC SOLITAIRE LAYOUT?

The game begins with seven stacks of shuffled cards, each with one card facing
up and the rest facing down beneath the first card. Each player will bring in
cards from the stock and arrange them into four stacks with a sequence beginning
with an Ace and ending with the King. The first player to achieve this sequence
wins.

IS SOLITAIRE A GAME OF SKILL OR LUCK?

Both skill and luck are important in the game. You’ll need skills and strategies
to arrange your cards in the desired sequence in the fastest time possible.
However, how the card is shuffled plays a role in your success, and this part
involves luck.
As the saying goes, the better prepared you are, the more luck you might have.

CAN YOU RUN OUT OF CARDS IN SOLITAIRE?

Yes, you can run out of stock cards while playing, but the game does not end
there. If that happens, turn over the waste stack to make a new stock and start
playing again. Then, pull the top three cards off, turn them over, and start a
new waste stack.
Repeat the above process if you run out of cards again.

HOW LONG SHOULD A SOLITAIRE GAME TAKE?

The average game takes around 3 minutes to complete. Some can take just a few
minutes to find a winner, while others will last many minutes. The time depends
on how many moves the players make and how they do it. The players’ skills also
play a significant role in the timing.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN YOU GO THROUGH THE DECK IN SOLITAIRE?

There are no limits on how many times you can go through the deck while playing
the standard game. In Solitaire Social, you can cycle through the deck as much
as you want while turning over 1 card to start a new waste pile.
However, some variations of Solitaire may limit how many times you can go
through the deck.
