THERAPIST

Hi! I am Nikhar (she/her). With over 8 years of experience in the field of
mental health, I have come to understand that an individual and their practice
is deeply intertwined. So, here’s a little about the beginnings.

My journey in the field of psychology was with a desire to understand myself
better. Growing up in a patriarchal society, I navigated through my own
anxieties and the pressure to conform. I discovered the importance of balance -
advocating for oneself and others while also fostering peace and acceptance.
This journey which continues even today instilled in me a profound belief and
hope: growth is possible, and change is real. Eventually, I learnt that helping
others navigate through their pain and being a witness to it was something that
I found fulfilling.

The COVID-19 pandemic further underscored the critical need for mental health
support. It became clear – starting my own practice was the natural next step in
my journey, allowing me to empower others on their path to well-being.

THERAPY

I strive to create a safe space where clients feel truly seen and accepted, free
from judgment even by themself. Cultivating mutual respect and trust in our
therapeutic relationship, I value authenticity and genuineness. As we journey
together, I embrace a partnership based on equality and collaboration, holding
space with compassion and empathy.

Therapy is a space of growth and change, but it is also a space of just ‘being’.
Working with clients and seeing resilience in them for all the struggles that
they have been through and the way they choose to take steps to take care of
themselves is extremely rewarding. When I am genuinely curious, it helps me go
to a space which is non-judgemental and understand where my client is coming
from. In some ways, just being in that space of challenging my own beliefs to
create space for others helps me personally and professionally.

THERAPEUTIC FRAMEWORK

I have a client-focused, feminist-lens, queer-affirmative and trauma informed
approach. I use an eclectic approach – tools and techniques from different types
of therapies including Person Centred, Existential, Cognitive-Behavioural, and
Internal Family Systems.

BEING AN OPTIMIST AND A FIRM BELIEVER IN THE IDEA THAT
‘CHANGE FOR THE BETTER IS POSSIBLE’,
I WORK TOWARDS EXPLORING STRENGTHS IN PEOPLE AND COMMUNITIES.

OUR VALUES

01

CAPACITY TO CHANGE

Every individual has an intrinsic drive to move towards growth and positive
change. Recognizing this capacity allows me to see the strengths and resources
my clients bring to their journey.

02

EMPOWERMENT

Empowering clients to identify their own potential and capabilities is vital. It
allows development of skills and coping mechanisms which will stay with them
long after therapy.

03

INTERSECTIONALITY

Creating a safe and affirming space that acknowledges and addresses the societal
systems and its impact on one’s multifaceted identity (gender, sexuality, caste,
class, disability) is essential to foster healing.

04

EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE

Prioritizing ongoing learning of newer therapeutic models ensures effective
therapy. By integrating these learnings, clients are able to receive more
widespread support.

05

ETHICAL GUIDELINES

Ensuring ethical standards, including confidentiality, anonymity, maintaining
ethical boundaries, and above all, well-being of the client is paramount in my
practice. I prioritize self-awareness to ensure I can provide effective support
to my clients.

In my practice, genuineness, empathy, and continual learning are not just
guiding forces, but unwavering pillars. I see people through a holistic
viewpoint which gives me a layered understanding of the ways my clients show up
in their lives and the lives of others.

WHO I AM AS A PERSON WILL ALWAYS IMPACT WHO I AM AS A COUNSELLOR AND THIS
CONVICTION GIVES ME THE SPACE TO WORK THROUGH MY OWN STEREOTYPES AND PREJUDICES.

TESTIMOMIALS

"I've been seeing Nikhar for about 2 years now and I can confidently say that
I've never before felt so stable for such a long period of time. Nikhar has
guided me through ups and downs, and given me the tools and the space to help
myself. She has a knack for gently pushing me forward, is easy to talk to, and
has really helped me unravel a lot of tangles in my brain that I had already
deemed unsolvable.
Right now I am mentally at a place which I never thought I would ever be able to
get to, and I know there's still more progress to come. I'm grateful to Nikhar
for helping me get here."

M.J. | 27 YEARS

"I was going through a very rough phase in life with a constant sinking feeling
and zero motivation when I started undergoing therapy with Nikhar. Being a
patient listener, she has helped bring about a positive mindset change in me,
enabling me to see situations in a different light and be a lot more kinder to
myself. In addition to the great conversations during our therapy sessions, her
suggestions around practicing mindfulness, self-affirmation, and breathing
exercises continue to help me on a daily basis. I'm extremely grateful to her
for helping me reach a great place in life!"

A.J. | 24 YEARS

“Nikhar is a wonderful therapist. I’m a queer person of colour and she’s truly
helped me live a better life. I’ve been with her for about 3 years and don’t
plan to change! What I appreciate most about her is that she makes an effort to
research and learn to better treat her clients. She also customizes her
communication to the client. I have recommended her to those in my community and
will continue to do so.”

S.S. | 31 YEARS

“Nikhar’s approach and empathetic nature make it extremely easy to open up to
her and work through the most seemingly complex issues effortlessly. Her focus
on grounding techniques and mind-body connection have changed my outlook to
regulating myself and reacting in difficult situations, couldn’t recommend her
more to anyone looking to get started on their therapy journey”

FAQS

 * 1. How to book a session?

   Once you reach out to me via WhatsApp or Email, we will schedule a free
   Initial call (5-10 mins) to determine if this is a good fit. Post that, you
   will receive the informed consent form, payment details as well as the link
   to book your slot. Once the consent form is filled and payment of fees is
   complete, the booking of the session is done.

 * 3. How often are sessions held? How long is each session?

   Each session is 50 minutes long. The frequency of sessions is usually once a
   week to begin with, however may be different for clients depending on their
   needs and is collaboratively decided with clients.

 * 5. Do you offer online sessions?

   I provide therapy services both online (on Google Meet) as well as in-person
   (in Mumbai). There are no major differences in the therapeutic practice,
   although, clients may have a preference and can choose accordingly.

 * 7. What is the mode of payment?

   Payment can be made by either UPI (GPay, Paytm, PhonePe etc) or Bank
   Transfer.

 * 9. What is a sliding scale?

   Sliding scale is reserved for those with limited financial resources, which
   would prohibit them from seeking mental help otherwise. This sliding scale is
   funded by charging regular therapy rates to a majority of clients, who make
   it possible for underprivileged clients to receive mental health care.

   *Sliding Scale is based on availability. A sliding scale is also not to be
   confused for a discount for attending a greater or lower number of sessions

 * 2. What does a session look like?

   A safe space of being with themselves and reflecting on their experience,
   also the feeling of being heard. I work on building coping skills in each
   session as it helps on what one can do despite the problems that they may
   face. It is essential that a client is able to take back at least one
   tool/technique that helps them in times of distress. While we do set goals
   and work towards them, sessions are not too structured to provide flexibility
   to explore different areas of growth.

 * 4. What do I need to know before the first session?

   Our first session will focus on getting to know you and your goals for
   therapy. It helps when you communicate your expectations and goals in
   therapy. Feel free to jot down notes beforehand or bring any questions you
   have. I'm here to support you - reach out if you have any questions before,
   during or after sessions.

 * 6. What is the fee for each session?

   For Resident Indians:

    * In-person individual therapy - Rs 2200/-

    * Online individual therapy - Rs 2000/-

    * In-person Couples therapy – Rs 4000/-

    * Online Couples therapy – Rs 3800/-

   For Non-Resident Indians:

    * Online individual therapy - Rs 3200/-

    * Online Couples therapy – Rs 4800/-

   There is no discount for bulk session booking.

 * 8. What is your Payment and Cancellation Policy?

   Last minute cancellations do not allow enough time to fill your slot, thus
   here is the policy:

   Please ensure payment at least 48 hours before our session and share
   transaction details via WhatsApp/Email for confirmation. Cancellations
   require 24 hours' notice to avoid penalties:

    * Rescheduling allowed with no fee before 24 hours

    * Late cancellations (within 24 hours but 12 hours before session) incur 50%
      fee

    * Cancellations after this window or no-shows result in full session fee
      charge

 * 10. What is the confidentiality policy?

   Your privacy is my priority. All information shared in our sessions is kept
   strictly confidential and not disclosed to anyone without your consent.

   Exceptions to this policy include:

    * If there is a serious concern for client’s safety or someone else’s
      safety, particularly if a child is at risk of serious harm;

    * If there is reason to believe that you are committing sexual abuse;

    * If it is essential to prevent a serious threat to either public health or
      national security
