MODALITIES Somatic Psychotherapy encompasses many body-centered interventions psychotherapists use today. NC Center of Resiliency offers the following modalities that fall under the somatic umbrella. EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING (EMDR) THERAPY A method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. It is a phased, focused approach to treating traumatic and other symptoms by reconnecting the client in a safe and measured way to the images, self-thoughts, emotions, and body sensations associated with the trauma, and allowing the natural healing powers of the brain to move toward adaptive resolution. Learn More CHILD-PARENT PSYCHOTHERAPY An intervention for children aged 0-5 who have experienced at least one traumatic event and/or are experiencing mental health, attachment, and/or behavioral problems. CPP assists in building a responsive, nurturing caregiver-child relationship that is proven to buffer the developing brain from the damaging effects of toxic stress, while simultaneously facilitating cognitive and social-emotional development. Over the course of treatment, caregiver and child are guided to create a joint narrative of the psychological traumatic event and identify and address traumatic triggers that generate dysregulated behaviors and affect. The clinician will help foster caregiver’s ability to respond in helpful, soothing ways when the child is upset, foster child’s ability to use parent as a secure base, and develop strategies for regulating affect. ART THERAPY Art can be used and created for therapeutic purposes combining the therapeutic process of creation and mental health treatment. Art therapy can be a highly effective way to support the therapeutic process when words alone are not working. Art supports, enhances, and changes the therapeutic process in a way that is gentle, creative, meaningful, and often fun. Art therapy is effective for those of all ages and stages of life, as long as you are open to the process, it is open to you.
