SADLY, THIS IS THE FIRST ONE THAT DIDN’T WORK FOR ME

I love this series, and have listened to every book as soon as it has been
written - as well as recommending them to others. However, in this one -
although I get the attraction of a setting where everyone is stuck in one place
(AKA Agatha Christie etc.), my experience was that this really detracted from
the story. It felt (sorry JD) predictable at times (with all the nods to classic
scary house stuff -secret passages, faces at the window etc). Plus - a first for
me - even occasionally a bit boring. In contrast, the story lines outside the
house were interesting (and a relief), with Bob Hoon and Logan’s Dad. I suspect
that this book was more fun to write than to listen to (but if I’m fully honest,
it felt a little self-indulgent at times). Sorry if this feedback is hard to
hear. I’m still a massive fan and look forward to the next one. (I realise that
authors are people not machines and shouldn’t have to churn out more of the
same) - so I will aim to approach the next one with a more open mind.

SAD TO SAY THIS WAS DISAPPOINTING

I have listened to all of Jack Logan's books and thoroughly enjoyed every one.
This last one however, did disappoint, it became silly and had a weak plot. I
hope the author rethinks his next one.

LOVE THE SERIES BUT….

Not a fan of …. ‘Butler in the kitchen with a butchers knife ‘ …type of story
Please can we have the normal
Kind of strange murder scene with the funny investigations.
Angus King is the BEST narrator and always look for books that he does.
Also please more books with Hun. Love that series.

I THINK I MAY GIVE UP ON THE SERIES

As much as I love the Jack Logan character, these books are declining in
quality. The story in this one is let down by the absurd characters, Tyler’s
ridiculous fearfulness, and the continuing presence of the most annoying
constable in crime fiction, the ceaselessly talking DC Swanee, are distractions.
Neither is a credible character, and spending 10 hours in their company is a
feat of endurance. Please get rid of DC Swanee - she is awful.

LOVE THIS SERIES

Firstly I want to say Angus King is the master of narration. He could read the
phone book and make it interesting. This book is no exception, a stunning effort
once again.
I notice this book has had some uncomplimentary reviews, I don’t think they are
warranted. Yes, this isn’t JD Kirk’s best work, it is still worth
reading/listening to.
The DCI Logan series is without a doubt the most entertaining I have listened
to. You will laugh and cry as the characters begin to feel like they’re family.
Do yourself a huge favour and buy this and the rest of the series.
I recommend anything written by JD Kirk.

GREAT STORY

I love JD Kirk’s books and this one certainly doesn’t disappoint.
Angus King really brings the characters to life and is very easy to listen to.

LOVED IT, BUT MISSED THE MARK

I soooo look forward to new books in this series! For the first time ever, I've
wavered in the first chapters....usually 'hooked' by the end of chapter 1. I
love the character development and the narration (thanks Angus)...but for a
reason I can't quite put my finger on, there's not quite the depth this
time...and I truly hope that the 'pressure-for-the-next-one' (that I have been
part of!) has not resulted in any lapse from this truly wonderful author!

BRILLIANT AS USUAL

Very funny, deeply intriguing and includes a deep dive into some of the hidden
characteristics of a few of the most loved regulars in this series . It’s a bit
like getting into your bed, pulling up your favourite fleecey tartan duvet and
being grateful for how fabulously comforting it is.
Loved the story, Lol’d all the time and didn’t guess the baddie until the end.

HALLOWEEN, HAUNTED CASTLE AND HISTORIC STORM...

...all come together for a DCI Logan investigation. I loath to be in anyway
critical because I wait and wait for the next offering in this series or any of
the others by Kirk. But this one was half a step off of expectations. I just
never fully engaged. I hated the separation of the team.
Loved the cameo with the Hoon's as baby sitters: outstanding. And hopefully Bob
can finally get Boy Band to mature a little.

Still worth the credit and your listening hours. And Angus King? Perfection!

I LOVE THESE BOOKS, BUT…

… good grief, Tyler. You’re not in the Scooby Doo movie. I almost had to assign
this to the DNF category between Tyler and Tammy Jo whining. They’re normally
funny, but this was over the top. And I missed Ben, Hamsa, and Sinéad.

To the good, Tyler and Claire; and Tammy Jo and Donatello. And the ending. Can’t
wait for the next book!

DISAPPOINTED

I've read all of this author's books, including the discontinued Space Team
series. I've consistently given them 5 stars for overall quality, story, and
performance. However, in this particular case, while the performance remained
stellar as usual, I found the story to be incredibly dull. I held out hope that
it would improve as I went along, but unfortunately, it didn't. It's unclear
what the author was aiming for with this one, and it seems like the crime
stories might be losing their spark. Personally, I believe it would be a much
better idea for the author to continue the Space Team series, which, in my
opinion, is both hilarious and unrivaled.

I’ve purchased and listened to every book in this series and was excited to see
a new release, but that’s where the positivity ends… the whole thing seemed a
bit contrived and can be summarised as Cluedo meets Scooby Doo.. almost as if
the author has run out of credible ideas… disappointing.

NOT UP TO THE USUAL STANDARD I'M AFRAID

Was so looking forward to this but was a bit disappointed if I'm honest. Plot
was terrible like a bad west end play. Not the usual. Tyler coming across badly
far too stupid. Missed the usual interwoven character stories. Hope the next

VERY DISAPPOINTING

I’ve loved all the other books in the series, in fact I’ve listened to some
several times. What I enjoy is Angus King’s brilliant narration and the
interplay and banter among the characters. Perhaps if JD Kirk wanted to veer off
into a bit of different story telling he should have made it totally with
different characters and not try to tie in Logan and the others.,
If he brings out any more books in this series I’ll be reading the reviews
carefully before wasting my money.
If this is as good as it gets now then perhaps the series should end.
