Following EPA’s formal request that state agencies address nitrate contamination in eight counties, members of the House Agriculture Finance and Policy Committee proposed a $5 per acre property tax credit for land certified in the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program. Minnesota Corn Growers president Dana Allen-Tully tells Brownfield the Department of Health is in charge of addressing the problem. “And they are really focused on not placing blame. We all understand that there are a lot of sources where nitrates may be contributing to our issue.” She says soil health and clean drinking water are priorities for members and the association is actively engaged with the agencies involved.
