APPLICATIONS

Torque Wrenches  

Throughout the oil and gas, petrochemical and processing industries, pipeline
joints, valves, pumps and machinery present challenges for controlled bolting.

The restricted access on this flange was easily overcome with a W-Series Torque
Wrench. It offers reliability and control, ensuring even and consistent torque
is applied to all bolts.

Tensioners  

The maintenance teams at the Wallumbilla Gas Treatment Facility in Queensland
Australia, were assembling several gas processing and treatment pipelines. Each
flange bolt required a precise amount of tension in order to ensure a leak free
connection.

The GT-Series Hydraulic Tensioners provided a safe and efficient solution for
assembling multiple flanges. The compact profile allowed the tensioners to
achieve accurate bolt loads with leak free connections on critical joints.

Pumps  

In South Australia, due to the tight areas of pipework, the amount of torqueing
required, and the harsh worksite environment, Global Engineering and
Construction needed an efficient, compact, lightweight, and durable pump.

The use of the intelligent auto cycle function on the E-Pulse Electric Torque
Wrench Pump improves application completion speed. The intelligent auto cycle
senses when the wrench should retract. This eliminates the wasted time and wear
and tear of having to set the pressure for every cycle when not required to turn
the nut.

The job was completed ahead of schedule and did not require any downtime.

GEC’s Operations Support, Matt Small said “The E-Pulse Pump is lighter and more
compact than previous pumps used. The lightweight design does not require a two
person lift when loading, un-loading, or when moving in confined spaces”.

Cylinders  

The base below a coker at a refinery needed to be repaired to allow its
foundation to be stabilized.

The massive vessel needed to be lifted approximately 100mm. It weighed 600-tons
and measured 9m in diameter and 40m tall.

This required a solution with a high degree of safety where it was possible to
maintain the balance of the load throughout the lift.

A custom synchronous lifting system was developed to allow the operations to be
carried out in cold temperatures. The system included eight CLRG high tonnage
hydraulic cylinders with stroke sensors and custom cold-weather cables,
manifolds, load holding valves, arctic hydraulic oil and a hydraulic power unit.

Piping Isolation and Test Tools  

During the shutdown of several processing units at a refinery, the Enerpac
Mechanical Isolation and Test Tools (MITT) were deployed to maintain a vapor
barrier during welding and subsequently, to perform localized weld testing to
verify system integrity.

With just a small fleet of tools, they covered 3/4" to 12" (DN20 to DN300) sizes
in multiple schedules. The light, slim and versatile design made it easy to
isolate behind elbows. They were also able to cover higher pressure tests
without requiring a schedule specific or dedicated tool. The work was
successfully completed within the 45 day deadline.

Machining Tools  

A pipe fabrication company needed to machine eight 300NB (485 OD) flanges that
had been galvanised for use in a refinery construction project.

The galvanizing process had covered the flange sealing surface, so it was
necessary to machine back to the base metal and create a gramophone finish for
the gasket sealing surface.

The MM1000i Flange Facing Machine has the capacity to face diameters from 6” to
40”. It includes a three-speed continuous feed gearbox, to deliver three
different gramophone surface finishes. The quick set adjustable clamping jaws
minimise set up time and the 360°tool post enables a wide range of machining
operations.

The situation was resolved in just a matter of hours, the machine operator fully
trained, and flanges machined to the desired specification.

Flange Spreaders  

A pipeline chemical injection quill was damaged and bent by a heavy object
passing within the pipeline. Gaining access to straighten or break the quill was
impractical, and hammering steel wedges into the gap risked injury and damage to
the flanges and pipeline.

The Equalizer Flange Spreaders were inserted into the 6mm access gap between the
flanges and with their large spreading capabilities, the quill was pulled out
successfully. There was minimal downtime and no damages were made to the flange
and pipework.

Nut Cutters  

Removing corroded nuts using a chisel and hammer, flogging, or a gas torch often
result in damages to the flange or bolts, and can take 15 to 30 minutes per nut.

Hiap Seng Engineering used the NC Series Hydraulic Nut Cutter to remove corroded
nuts during their pipeline maintenance services for Shell at their Pulau Bukom
Singapore facility. Powered by a hydraulic hand pump, the nut cutter was able to
cut a nut off a bolt safely in less than 2 minutes , without damaging the bolt,
flange or gasket.
