OUR

Programs

For the past 24 years, HDF has been working to break the cycle of poverty in the
most challenging areas of Pakistan, by helping people get access to economic
opportunities, quality education and primary healthcare, turning them into
responsible, empowered and active members of an inclusive society.

Over the period, HDF has positively impacted more than 3.4 million people
through several programs and projects across 7000 villages. These statistics
speak of the steadfast support of our donors, the tremendous efforts of our
teams and partner communities, and the continuous innovation of our programs,
especially in the face of the global COVID-19 pandemic last year.

INTEGRATED

Program Model

We firmly believe that multi-dimensional challenge of poverty can only be
addressed through holistic approach. Social Capital Development is cross-cutting
and foundation of each program of HDF as we place overall well-being of partner
communities at the center stage and progressively follow holistic model to
transform communities through impactful interventions. Education & Literacy,
Primary Healthcare, Livelihoods & Food Security, Sustainable Environment, and
Partnerships are key pillars of our program alligned with   to help communities
move from poverty to prosperity.

With physical footprint in 91 Tehsils of 69 Districts of Punjab, Sindh,
Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azaad Jammu Kashmir, we strive to achieve
excellence in program delivery.

SOCIAL CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT

SOCIAL CAPITAL

Development

Social Capital Development (SCD) forms the foundation for HDF’s integrated
development programs driven by the philosophy of helping people help themselves.
SCD teams play a proactive and engaging role in mobilizing communities to
identify their needs and find solutions to their problems.

Embracing the rights-based approach, HDF strives to develop self-sustained
communities. The process of social mobilization seeks to develop communities
through building and strengthening local institutions as well as alliances
formed on the basis of shared values, norms, vision and mutual cooperation. We
facilitate institution building from the grassroot level. Group of individuals
with passion to make change in community are empowered through village
development organizations (VDOs), local support organizations (LSOs) and sector
committees, focusing on education, health, livelihood and physical
infrastructure, along with children forums.

HDF grooms communities through various levels of the capacity building. This
comprises Community Management Skills training (CMSTs), Business Management
Skills Trainings (BMSTs), conferences and seminars among others. Gender is a
cross cutting priority. Gender mainstreaming and women’s participation in all
aspects of community development is ensured.

EDUCATION & LITERACY

EDUCATION &

Literacy

Providing quality education to children in marginalized communities is our
flagship program. HDF works hard to make sure learning is always an enjoyable
experience for children. The Education & Literacy program is designed to teach
them life skills including critical and analytical thinking, molding them into
decision-makers of the future. Teaching civic sense is also an integral part of
the program, shaping them into productive members of the society.

We lay special emphasis on gender equality and community participation while
taking local norms and culture into account. Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs)
encourage community participation and keeps parents involved in their children’s
schooling process.

We have been establishing and maintaining non-formal and formal schools under
this program for primary and secondary levels. We also conduct enrollment
campaigns for HDF schools besides facilitating student enrollment in other
schools. In addition to building our schools with modern facilities, we also
provide training to our teachers by conducting regular teachers training
programs to improve their teaching skills.

PARTNERSHIPS

TRANSITIONING TO

Partnerships

At the Foundation, we strive to address complex human development challenges
which do not fit to demarcated sectors. Impactful and sustainable development
requires partnerships between civil society, private sector and the government.
Multi-stakeholder partnerships help mobilize and share knowledge, technical
expertise, technology and financial resources to achieve sustainable development
in the regions which are underdeveloped and subsequently contribute to the
national development goals.

The Foundation is expanding its portfolio of partnerships though building
strategic alliances with both public and private sector entities, membership
associations and implementing projects and programs in partnership with
institutional donors. With all these new partnerships and strategic alliances,
HDF is propelling towards expanding its programs and building new ones to serve
the underserved communities better.

In 1997, on the occasion of Pakistan’s 50th anniversary of independence, a group
of Pakistani American visionaries came together to work for human development in
Pakistan and launched The Human Development Foundation. As transformational
leaders with deep roots in Pakistan, they were passionate about human
development and poverty eradication.
