Offerings About Contact “Bodywork can get us in touch with our present situation, give us a feel for possible alternatives, help us grasp the forces that form us, put our fingers on the elements that have been missing in our ways of doing things, give us a renewed sense of our organic strength and intelligence. It can be a tremendous catalyst in the assertion of self-responsibility for much of what we have become and much of what we can become.” ~ Deane Juhan, Job’s Body OFFERINGS Connective Tissue Massage This session can be either 75 or 90 minutes. The session starts with a thorough intake and establishing your goals for the session. This can be as general as “taking some time for me” or as specific as addressing scar tissue or an area of restriction. From there, Anne Mariah will use Connective Tissue Massage to reduce pain, increase movement, and release shortened, restricted, or adhered fascia. Connective Tissue Massage focuses on addressing fascia and lengthening muscles from their origin site to their insertion point with long, intentional, and specific strokes. Muscles and fascia respond remarkably well to this technique and clients report feeling a release of tension and a sense of “things going back to where they belong.” This is not a light, Swedish massage. While pressure is deep, the pacing is slow. As a result, the session should be a relaxing and enjoyable experience that puts you deeply in touch with your body. As needed, Anne Mariah also uses Trigger Point Therapy to address specific points of tension, particularly for headaches and neck pain. For clients who wants to address scar tissue as part of a massage, Anne Mariah is trained in McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release techniques. Each session will be different and designed to respond to what the body is asking for in the moment and what you hope to achieve with our time. Abdominal Massage Abdominal Massage* is a profoundly effective treatment for reproductive and digestive disorders of all kinds. Our bellies and core are both our energetic and physical centers, yet are often a source of both physical and emotional pain or discomfort. By offering Abdominal Massage, Anne Mariah hopes to help her clients reconnect with their bodies as a source of vitality and strength. Each Abdominal Massage session covers the entire external abdomen with gentle touch, stimulating circulation of blood, lymph and nerve impulses to all organs. The sessions also include massage to your back, hips and sacrum and may include treatment with a castor oil pack. For clients who want to address abdominal scar tissue, Anne Mariah will also use McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release techniques. During the initial session, Anne Mariah will teach you a modified version of the abdominal massage to practice at home on a regular schedule. This type of massage is routinely effective for people experiencing menstrual pain, peri-menopause and menopause symptoms, post-partum issues, fertility challenges, prolapse, and scar tissue and surgical recovery. For best results, three sessions scheduled two to four weeks apart are recommended, followed by as-needed maintenance. *Abdominal Massage is a form of bodywork that originated in Belize many years ago. Herbalist and naprapath Rosita Arvigo formulated the Abdominal Massage techniques after her decades-long apprenticeship in Belize with Don Elijio Panti - a Mayan healer - and Hortence Robinson, an herbal midwife. From there, these techniques have been taught to practitioners worldwide through the Abdominal Therapy Collective. ABOUT ANNE MARIAH Anne Mariah is a licensed massage therapist, an attorney, and a rock climber. She believes that all aspects of our lives, and our capacity to contribute to our communities, are greatly enhanced when our bodies feel healthy, supported, and capable. Anne Mariah loves to develop expertise in her fields and is studying to become an abdominal therapy practitioner (Abdominal Therapy Collective, certification expected April 2024) and a Structural Integrator (Taos School of Structural Integration, admission pending, certification expected June 2025). Anne Mariah sees bodywork sessions as a working partnership between the client and the therapist, and her overarching goal is to facilitate her client’s own individual healing process. When she’s not working, you can usually find Anne Mariah rock climbing across the West, backpacking in the Grand Canyon, or at home in Flagstaff trying to carry forward her late, beloved grandmother’s watercolor painting heritage.
