THE MEANING

INTRODUCTION

One could say "Octopus superwoman turtle? They're random emojis”. You could even
add “I like how they look together”. But don’t be fooled there is more. What
does line of octopus, superwoman and a turtle emoji truly means? No one knows
what it means... but it's provocative... IT GETS THE PEOPLE GOING!

CHAPTER 1

THE OCTOPUS

The glorious Octopoda is the best of all the molluscs. It possesses a
magnificent touch and ability to get through even the smallest of cracks. It
earns it’s place on the pedestal of emoji drawer with pride, grace and a bit of
shock (See EXHIBIT B). While the order of emojis can be perceived
“circumstantial” I believe the significance of octopus appearing first is the
key to understanding… The Meaning.

OCTOPUS FACTS

In search for… The Meaning… we must uncover and assess the known slippery facts.

THEY EAT THEIR ARMS WHEN BORED

Compared with octopuses living in tanks full of interesting decor like shells
and flowerpots, octopuses living in more spartan conditions become pretty
stressed out, one study found. Some even turn to a disturbing behavior known as
autophagy, or eating their own appendages, in such non-stimulating environments.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THIS

PLAY WITH YOUR OCTOPUS, OR HE/SHE WILL EAT YOUR ARMS TOO.

THEY USE TOOLS

Like chimpanzees, dolphins and crows, octopuses are among the special set of
intelligent animals that have been observed using tools. In 2009, scientists
reported they had watched veined octopuses (Amphioctopus marginatus) picking up
discarded coconut shells and using them like mobile homes.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THIS

WHO LIVES IN A COCONUT UNDER THE SEA? OCTOPUS.

THEY CAN OPEN CHILDPROOF PILL BOTTLES

Well, at least a female giant Pacific octopus named Billye can. Biologists at
the Seattle Aquarium put Billye's strength and smarts to the test with a
bottle-opening challenge. The clever cephalopod was able to unlock the top and
access her snack in five minutes. Perhaps that's unsurprising for a creature
known to open clam shells and other stubborn-shelled mollusks without a shucking
knife.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THIS

THIS OCTOPUS WILL PROBABLY OPEN A JAR FASTER THAN ME.

THEY'RE MASTERS OF CAMOUFLAGE

An octopuses can change the color of its entire body in just three-tenths of a
second. But the creature doesn't simply take on the general pattern of its
surroundings. Instead, it often mimics specific undersea objects, like plants or
rocks, to disappear into the underwater scenery.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THIS

IF IT LOOKS LIKE ROCK, WALKS LIKE A ROCK AND BARKS LIKE UHM… ITS OCTOPUS

THEY LIVE FAST AND DIE YOUNG

For all of their amazing abilities, octopuses have short lives that typically
last only a few years. Some species drop dead after just six months.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THIS

YOLO

THEIR SUCKERS ARE THE STRONG BUT SENSITIVE TYPE

Man-made suction cups pale in comparison to natural ones that cover the
undersides of octopus arms. A common octopus has about 240 suckers on each limb,
and a particularly large sucker can hold up to 35 lbs. The suckers are also
extremely sensitive; they can pick up subtle chemical signals and move
individually, even folding in half in a pinching gesture.

CHAPTER 2

THE SUPERWOMAN

The superwoman emoji is a mystery in this peculiar arrangement of emojis. She is
in the middle of the arrangement, balanced as all things should be. It is known,
all women are super. Thus to even attempt to understand… The Meaning… we must
begin to try to understand and learn about Women.

EXHIBIT C

WOMAN FACTS

Little known about the true nature of woman, what makes them tick and what makes
them super. In this search for… The meaning… we will not find an answer, but
lets try because life is effort and we’ll stop when we die.

WOMEN SEE MORE COLORS

Ever argued with your female friend over those white curtains that she claimed
to be either eggshell or cream? Well, that’s due to women seeing on average 20%
more differences in colors and shapes.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THIS

DON’T ARGUE WITH WOMAN.

THE AVERAGE WOMAN WILL EAT 4 LB OF LIPSTICK IN HER LIFETIME

When you take the average number of lipsticks bought throughout a lifetime and
their average wearability, it comes down to women licking off or eating with
food about 4 lb of lipstick in their life. That translates to 533.76 lipsticks.
Of course, for some women, this number is way too big (or not big enough), so
that’s why it’s an average — it varies with country and culture.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THIS

BUY HER MORE LIPSTICK.

THEY HATE TAKING RISKS

You might have noticed that women are worse risk-takers than men, and there is
actually a scientific reason for that. The anterior cingulate cortex, the part
of the brain that weighs options when making a decision, is larger in women than
in men. Some argue that this was evolution’s way of making women better
caretakers and saving the “tribe” when gathering food and structuring social
life.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THIS

SHE WON'T PLAY RISK WITH YOU.

THEY MIGHT MAKE THEIR MEN FAT

Surprisingly, a lot of men in long-term relationships are getting bigger, and
that might be the doing of their women. They go into a “taking care” mode that
results in feeding their partner excessively (with the intention of having a
strong “warrior” by their side). There is also the unconscious intention of
making a man less attractive to other females.

CHAPTER 3

THE TURTLE

The pinnacle of the emoji line, the magnificent yet insignificant – the Turtle.
It may seem random, and it very likely is, because it probably is. Nevertheless
we must continue our search for… The Meaning… by taking our time [slowly,
slower, even slower, ok thats slow enough] to look at the rather boring turtle
facts.

EXHIBIT C

TURTLE FACTS

For real thought, slower your expectations, octopus facts were much more fun.

THAT SHELL ISN'T WHAT IT SEEMS

Shells look a little like human body armor, so one might conclude that they're
reptilian versions of the powered exoskeleton that makes Iron Man such a
fearsome superhero. But the shell, which is made up of about 50 different bones,
actually is an evolutionary modification of the rib cage and part of the
vertebral column. And contrary to what you may have seen in animated cartoons, a
chelonian can't take off its shell and crawl out of it – just as you couldn't
dismantle your own spine and ribs, according to the University of Michigan
Museum of Zoology.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THIS

IT'S BONES, GOT IT.

TORTOISES ORBITED THE MOON BEFORE ASTRONAUTS DID

In September 1968, the Soviet Union launched the space probe Zond 5 on a mission
to orbit the moon and test conditions as a prelude to a possible lunar mission
by cosmonauts. In addition to a life-size human mannequin equipped with
radiation detectors, the spacecraft carried a number of living passengers,
including a pair of Russian tortoises that newspaper reports initially described
as "turtles." After a week in space, Zond 5 returned to Earth and, despite a
failure of crucial altitude detectors, successfully splashed down in the Indian
Ocean.

Along with the other creatures, the tortoises were rescued and brought back to
the Soviet Union for study. The Soviets revealed that the tortoises had lost
about 10 percent of their body weight, and showed an "excessive content" of
glycogen and iron in their liver tissue and some changes in their spleens.
Otherwise, though, the tortoises remained active and showed no loss of appetite.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THIS

THOSE DAMN RUSSIANS… BUT WAIT, THIS ONE WAS ACTUALLY INTERESTING, WE MIGHT BE
ONTO SOMETHING HERE.

ALLIGATOR SNAPPING TURTLES LURE PREY WITH THEIR TONGUES

The alligator snapping turtle catches prey by way of a fiendishly clever
evolutionary adaptation: an appendage to its tongue that, when wriggled, looks
an awful lot like a worm, according to the Saint Louis Zoo. A fish who gets
fooled by the turtle's tongue will swim right into range of the hungry
predator's jaws.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THIS

NEVERMIND, THIS ISN'T GETTING THAT MUCH INTERESTING.

MALES SELECT POTENTIAL MATES BY SNIFFING TAILS

Since both males and females' sexual organs are hidden inside their cloaca, a
cavity used for both reproduction and eliminating waste, humans have trouble
telling by sight which shelled creature is female and which is male. Turtles and
tortoises, however, possess an extremely keen sense of smell.

Males can detect the scent of pheromones, a type of identifying chemical, that
is secreted inside a female's cloaca. Chelonians rely on scent so heavily that a
male red-footed tortoise once was observed trying to mount a head of lettuce
that a female had just climbed over.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THIS

I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS INFORMATION.
