NEWS AND EVENTS
* Deadline for ABA and OSB House of Delegates Candidates – March 15
The Oregon State Bar is currently seeking candidates interested in serving on
the ABA and OSB House of Delegates. There are two open seats for the ABA HOD,
including one young lawyer delegate seat, and openings in each region for the
OSB HOD. More information and the relevant forms are available here.
* Board of Governors Vacancies – File by May 14
Four seats are up for election to the OSB Board of Governors. Relevant forms
and information are available here.
* Seeking Comment on Changes to Mentoring Program Rules
The Oregon State Bar invites feedback on two proposals related to the New
Lawyer Mentoring Program (NLMP). One would increase the salary threshold to
qualify for a fee exemption. The other would clearly define when
participating mentors may claim MCLE credit for this work. Details are here,
and comments are sought by February 9, 2024 at feedback@osbar.org.
* UTCR Amendments and Licensed Paralegals
On December 15th, the Chief Justice signed an order directing several
out-of-cycle UTCR changes. The new UTCR 1.210 addresses application of the
UTCRs to Licensed Paralegals. These new rules will take effect on January 1,
2024.
* Court Approves Supervised Practice Portfolio Examination (SPPE)
On November 7, 2023, the Oregon Supreme Court approved a new method to assess
the skills and knowledge of OSB applicants. The SPPE will be offered in
addition to the Oregon Bar Exam, beginning in 2024. More information is here.
* Volunteer with the Oregon State Bar
The Board of Governors is now accepting applications for lawyer and
non-lawyer volunteers interested in serving on a number of bar boards,
committees, and councils. A description of each opportunity accompanies the
application on the links below. Non-lawyer volunteers are asked to submit
their interest form by July 14 and lawyers should apply by October 2.

* Unified Bars and Federal Litigation
