Edie Jarolim earned a Ph.D. in English literature from New York University;
edited guidebooks at Frommer's and Fodor's in New York and Rough Guides in
London; published myriad travel articles and three travel guides (Frommer's San
Antonio and Austin; The Complete Idiot's Travel Guide to Mexico's Beach Resorts;
Arizona for Dummies); and generally led a respectable but dogless life until
2004, when she began palling around with terriers -- specifically, one small
terrier mix named Frankie.
Cluelessness about dogs in general and Frankie in particular inspired her to
begin reading up on all things canine and, eventually, to write AM I BORING MY
DOG: And 99 Other Things Every Dog Wishes You Knew (Alpha/Penguin, 2009). She
created WillMyDogHateMe.com to publicize the book, but the blog took on a life
of its own.
The discovery that her great uncle shared a space with and sold meat to Sigmund
Freud in Vienna led her to create another blog, FreudsButcher.com.
But there was this memoir on her back burner, covering her 25 years as a
guidebook editor for some of the largest companies in the business and, then, as
a Tucson-based freelance writer. It was published in October 2016 as GETTING
NAKED FOR MONEY: An Accidental Travel Writer Reveals All.
The much-beloved Frankie will never be forgotten, but he wasn't much of a
traveler. Edie's new dog, Madeleine, is far more outgoing and she's getting

resource for new owners. A lot of dog books are written by behaviorists,
trainers or other experts and can be overwhelming, but this book is practical,
fun, and written in easy-to-digest tidbits. It assures you that you don't have
to be perfect while telling you what you DO need to know. It covers topics not
addressed in other books - from the differences between various types of animal
shelters, to how to tell if your dog needs a shrink, to dog park etiquette to
friends who think you love your dog too much. It's funny, reassuring, wise, and
great for experienced dog owners as well as the new dog parent. Oops, owner.
Guardian. Servant. I guess I'll have to read that chapter again.

and creative ideas about things you can do with your dog but it is basically for
first-time dog owners. That said, it is not a bad book in that regard but there
are too many footnotes that make it very annoying to read. The footnotes should
just be included in the text; most of them are humorous and some of them are
important!

The title is really misleading. People who are interested in buying a book
called "Am I boring my dog?" will very likely not find this information helpful.
Half of the book is about getting your first dog, and the information is so
basic as to appeal to a very small percentage of the population (those who are
completely unfamiliar with dogs). The author also glossed over a lot of issues,
there simply isn't a lot of information, even for first time dog owners.
There are about 10 pages devoted to the actual subject of keeping your dog
mentally entertained, busy, and happy, and they primarily suggest kongs, walks,
and training, without going any further into the topics whatsoever.
No one interested in the title subject should get this book, it's not written
for you. If you're considering getting your first dog, there are better books on
the topic (I recommend Puppy Love by Liz Palika as an amazing book, lots of
great information, easy to read, good for first time and experience dog owners).

I love all the anecdotes referring to Frankie, the author's dog. I wish that I
had read this book before my very first dog joined my family. Although this book
is designed for people who are considering having a dog join their families for
the first time, it is also very practical and helpful resource for all things
dog for current dog owners. Again, I would recommend this book to anyone who
loves dogs. I purchased a copy for myself and for a friend who is a dog lover.
She read it in 2 days and also loved it. Get yourself a copy!

Gordon Setter pup, had done all the suggested hints for obtaining and preparing

about the author's techniques for brushing a dog's teeth. I've owned pure-bred
