Hjelm 2005 news Sci-Hub is now available as meme coin! So far Sci-Hub has collected donations in normal cryptocurrencty only, but few days ago a surpise came: Sci-Hub received a large portion of ... meme tokens named after the project. The total amount of funding received by Sci-Hub, by current exchange rate, is about $2M. But how long will that funding last? Meme coins are in trend today, but usually they do not last long: after becoming viral these coins slowly decline in price and eventually die. That is a normal lifecycle for a meme. But Sci-Hub is obviously much more than a meme: the website has a mission to make all of science open - and it is working towards that goal since 2011, for more than 10 years already (yes, there are recently some problems with new papers, but they are temporary). Indeed, it would be great if science had its own distributed cryptocurrency, that could be used to fund research projects, journal publications, awards and others. The idea itself is not new: there have been quite a few projects that attempted to implement it, but they did not succeed. But Sci-Hub meme coin succeeded, at least for now: the token has more than >16K holders and a market cap around 20M. We need to build upon this initial success, and who knows? Perhaps in the future the coin will be default currency in science. All in all, the funding that Sci-Hub received will be spent to support more open science initiatives. For example, why not to start rewarding authors for publishing their work in open journals? To support the initiative, you can install Solana wallet and buy some of Sci-Hub tokens. Donate part of them to Sci-Hub, and keep the other part until it grows. And join Sci-Hub meme coin community of course! Hjelm 2005 Sci-Hub is the most controversial project in today science. The goal of Sci-Hub is to provide free and unrestricted access to all scientific knowledge ever published in journal or book form. Today the circulation of knowledge in science is restricted by high prices. Many students and researchers cannot afford academic journals and books that are locked behind paywalls. Sci-Hub emerged in 2011 to tackle this problem. Since then, the website has revolutionized the way science is being done. Sci-Hub is helping millions of students and researchers, medical professionals, journalists and curious people in all countries to unlock access to knowledge. The mission of Sci-Hub is to fight every obstacle that prevents open access to knowledge: be it legal, technical or otherwise.
