The North and East Texas Press Association held its annual convention in
Granbury April 25-27, with Hood County News receiving several awards in the
Better Newspaper Contest.


HOSPITAL DISTRICT BOARD MOVES FORWARD WITH HOSPITAL TAX ELECTION; RATE NOT YET
SET





This November, Hood County residents will vote whether to move forward with a
proposed tax for the local hospital district — although the rate of the tax
remains to be set.


NOTHING BUNDT CAKES TO OPEN GRANBURY LOCATION IN COMING MONTHS





According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Nothing Bundt
Cakes will open a 2,285 square foot location at 1200 Waters Edge, Suite 120 —
the former home of Superior Fitness.


GISD recognizes 21 graduates from LEAP Academy
The Granbury Independent School District recognized 21 graduates from its LEAP
Academy program during a regularly scheduled school board meeting April 22.

Vehicle crashes into new CEFCO gas station
Many Hood County residents were left shocked Wednesday morning after witnessing
the aftermath of what appeared to be a car crash involving the new CEFCO gas
station on Highway 51.

County terminates lease agreement with YMCA
The Hood County Commissioners Court unanimously voted to terminate its lease
agreement with the Hood County YMCA during a special meeting April 25.


County designates May 12-18 as National Police Week
The Hood County Commissioners Court designated May 12-18 as National Police Week
during a regularly scheduled meeting April 23.

County declares May 2 National Day of Prayer
The Hood County Commissioners Court officially declared Thursday, May 2 a
National Day of Prayer during a regularly scheduled meeting April 23.

City releases first Comprehensive Plan survey following successful open house
The city of Granbury recently held its first open house meeting regarding the
city’s next Comprehensive Plan, with residents voicing their opinions on how to
best shape the future of Granbury.

CITY PROCLAIMS MAY 6-10 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WEEK





The Granbury City Council issued a proclamation declaring May 6-10 Economic
Development Week in the city during a regularly scheduled meeting April 16.


LIVESTREAMING RESUMES FOR CITY MEETINGS





After a nine-month hiatus, Granbury residents can once again watch city meetings
from the comfort of their own homes. Livestreaming officially resumed for the
Granbury City Council meeting April 16 — the first meeting to be livestreamed
following the city’s cyber attack last summer.


CITY ISSUES TICKETS TO GRANBURY CARNIVAL FOR FAILURE TO OBTAIN PERMIT





Many Hood County residents were ecstatic to learn that a carnival was in town
from April 11-14 at the Reunion Grounds — but it wasn’t all fun and games for
this fair. During a regular meeting of the Granbury City Council April 16, City
Manager Chris Coffman revealed that the carnival, Pride of Texas Shows, had
failed to obtain a specific use permit before setting up earlier that weekend —
leaving the city with no choice but to issue tickets to the company.

Two new businesses — Jersey Mike’s Subs and Bath & Body Works — will soon set up
shop in Granbury, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Marathon Digital Holdings Inc. has recently hired Stacie Howell as a new
community liaison to facilitate communications between Hood County residents and

A two-story Ace Hardware store is coming to Granbury and is expected to have a

It’s been almost three weeks since Expert Automotive Solutions sustained
extensive damage to its building at 106 Pirate Dr. following an accidental fire
Monday, Jan 15. But although the situation is dire, employees have not given up

It’s been years since Ben Musquez jumped out of an airplane. A bit over a decade
ago Musquez was 82 years young on his last jump. He did so with a team of former
soldiers all there for the same reason — to commemorate the 50th anniversary of
the U.S. Army’s 173rd Airborne Brigade. It would be his 300th jump, and out of a
C-47, no less. Musquez counted days not only as a “sky soldier” but as a “smoke
jumper” as well.
