track your use of the Services.

What Are Cookies?  Cookies are small text files that are stored in your device’s
browser when you visit a website. Cookies make it possible to recognize you as
the same user across one or more browsing sessions, and across one or more
websites  We and third parties use cookies for a variety of purposes, including
remembering your sign-in credentials and preferences so that you do not have to
input them each time you use the Services; allowing us and third parties to
customize your experience using the Services, including by determining the most
relevant content and advertisements to show you on our websites and elsewhere

performance, so that we may improve our Services and your experience

What are Beacons?  Web beacons (also called “web tags” or “pixels”) are tiny
graphics or scripts that communicate information from your device to a server
Beacons can be embedded in online or mobile content, videos, advertisements, or
emails  They allow a server to read certain types of information from your
device, such as when you viewed the beacon (and thus the content in which it is
embedded) and the IP address of the device on which you viewed the beacon  We
and third parties use beacons for a variety of purposes, including to analyze

visit, whether you are a return visitor, and any referring website, in order to
help us analyze how users interact with and use the Services, compile reports on
the Services’ activity, and provide other data and insights related to the
Services’ usage

We also allow our third party partners, third party ad serving networks, and
unaffiliated advertisers (collectively, “Advertisers”) to use cookies, web
beacons, and other tracking technologies to provide ads about goods and services
that may be of interest to you. Advertisers may place a separate cookie on your
computer, mobile device, or browser, or utilize other data collection and
tracking technologies, to collect information such as your IP address, browser

whether you respond to particular ads. Advertisers may collect information about
your online activities over time, across different computers, devices, and
browsers, and across different websites and other online services  Advertisers
may use this information to provide interest-based advertising or other targeted
content

Advertisers may use persistent identifiers, however, to track your internet
usage across other websites in their networks beyond our Services  Though we
restrict any attempts to re-identify this information, Advertisers may
nonetheless be able to do so by combining information they collect about you
when you use the Services with information about you obtained from other
sources.

In general, the information collected and generated by third parties is
processed and stored by the third parties and will be subject to their
respective privacy policies (which we do not control and for which we are not
responsible)  We do not control these third parties’ tracking technologies or
the information they may collect.

There are a number of ways to opt out of having your online activity and device
data collected by third parties, which we have summarized below  We hope you
find this information to be a helpful reference  Please note that using these
tools to opt out of tracking and targeting does not mean that you will not
receive advertising while using our Services or on other websites, nor will it
prevent the receipt of interest-based advertising from third parties that do not
participate in these programs  It will exclude you, however, from interest-based
advertising conducted through participating networks and platforms, as provided
by their policies and choice mechanisms.

Blocking Cookies in Your Browser  Most web browsers automatically accept

third-party’s platform or service. For example, you may access and change your
settings through the Facebook settings page for Apps and Websites. If you
withdraw our ability to access certain information from a third-party platform
or social media network, that choice will not apply to information that we have
already received from that third-party.

Using Privacy Plug-ins or Browsers  You can block our websites from setting
cookies used for interest-based ads by using a browser with privacy features,
like Brave, or installing browser plugins like Privacy Badger, Ghostery or

that you provide when you register to attend an event we are hosting or when
   participating in audience research).
 * Financial information (e.g.,  your financial account numbers or payment card
information; please note that a third party payment processor is responsible
for all collection, processing, and storage of your Financial Information and
we do not have direct access to or possession of any payment card
   information.)
 * Education information (e.g., information you provide when you apply for a job
with us or when you participate in audience research).
 * Protected classification characteristics (e.g., age, ethnicity, race,
   languages spoken, or gender)
 * Inferences (e.g., information about your interests, preferences, and
   favorites).

The sources from which we collect information are described in Section 1 of this
Privacy Policy; the business and commercial purposes for which we collect this
information are described in Section 2 of this Privacy Policy; and the
categories of third parties to whom we “disclose” the information for a business
purpose are described in Section 3 and Section 5 of this Privacy Policy

Your California Privacy Rights. As a California resident, you have the rights
listed below. However, these rights are not absolute, and in certain cases we
may decline your request as permitted by law.

 * Information  You can request the following information about how we have
collected, used, disclosed, and "sold" your Personal Information during the
   past 12 months:
   * The categories of Personal Information that we have collected and used.
   * The categories of sources from which we collected Personal Information.
   * The business or commercial purpose for collecting and/or selling Personal
     Information.
   * The categories of third parties with whom we share Personal Information.
   * Whether we have disclosed your Personal Information for a business purpose,
and if so, the categories of Personal Information received by each category
     of third party recipient.
   * Whether we’ve sold your Personal Information, and if so, the categories of
Personal Information received by each category of third party recipient
 * Access  You can request a copy of the Personal Information that we have
collected about you during the past 12 months.
 * Deletion  You can ask us to delete the Personal Information that we have
   collected from you.
 * Opt-out of sales  You can ask that we do not sell your Personal Information.
In addition, if you direct us not to sell your Personal Information, we will
consider it a request pursuant to California’s “Shine the Light” law to stop
sharing your personal information covered by that law with third parties for
   their direct marketing purposes.
 * Opt-in  If we know that you are younger than 16 years old, we will ask for
your permission (or if you are younger than 13 years old, your parent’s or
guardian’s permission) to sell your Personal Information before we do so.
 * Nondiscrimination  You are entitled to exercise the rights described above
free from discrimination. This means that we will not penalize you for
   exercising your rights by taking actions such as denying you services;
increasing the price/rate of services; decreasing service quality; or
suggesting that we may penalize you as described above for exercising your
   rights.

How to Exercise your California Rights. California residents may exercise the
California privacy rights described above as follows:

 * Rights to information, access, and deletion  To request to exercise your
   information, access or deletion rights:
   * Complete the “Submit a CCPA Data Request” form available in our online Help
     Center.
   * Email privacy@theatlantic.com
   * Call us toll free: 1-855-940-0585.
 * Identity verification for CCPA rights to information, access, and deletion.
   * We reserve the right to confirm your California residence to process your
requests and will need to confirm your identity to process your requests to
     exercise your CCPA rights.
   * Following California law, we take reasonable precautions to verify the
identities of those California residents submitting requests to delete or
access Personal Information, or to learn more about how their Personal
Information is processed. For requests to access specific pieces of
Personal Information, we verify the requester’s identity by having them
first complete a notarized affidavit affirming their identity and
California residency. When a notarized affidavit cannot be obtained, we may
request alternate forms of identification, such as by authenticating one’s
identity through their account on our site or, only when necessary and only
as permissible under applicable law, by providing a copy of a government
     identification card.
   * For CCPA deletion requests and requests to learn more about how their
Personal Information is processed, we verify the requester’s identity by
asking them to confirm their request by email.
   * We cannot process your request if you do not provide us with sufficient
detail to allow us to verify your identity, understand the nature of the
     request, and respond to it.
 * Right to opt-out of the “sale” of your Personal Information: The Atlantic
does not sell your Personal Information in the conventional sense (i.e., for
money)  Like many companies, however, we use services that help deliver
interest-based ads to you and may transfer Personal Information to business
partners for their use. Making Personal Information (such as online
identifiers or browsing activity) available to these companies may be
considered a “sale” under the CCPA.  You can request to opt out of such
“sale” of your Personal Information here: Do Not Sell My Personal
Information  Please note that you will still see some advertising, regardless
of your selection. We do not impose verification protocols for processing
California residents’ requests to opt out of the “sale” of their Personal
Information, unless we have reason to question the authenticity of a
requester’s identity, in which case we may request a notarized affidavit
affirming their identity and California residency.

Authorized Agents. California residents can empower an “authorized agent” to
submit CCPA requests on their behalf through the same means outlined above
through which a California resident may file a request – through our online Help
Center, by emailing us at privacy@theatlantic.com, or by calling our toll free
number. Unless the California resident has provided the authorized agent power
of attorney, we will also require the following before processing a request
submitted via an authorized agent:

 * Signed authorization from the California resident permitting the authorized
   agent to submit CCPA requests on their behalf;
 * Proof of the California resident’s identity sufficient to satisfy our
respective verification protocols that otherwise apply to CCPA requests to
delete Personal Information, access Personal Information, learn more about
how Personal Information is processed, or to opt out of the “sale” of
   Personal Information; and
 * Direct confirmation sent from the consumer to us (without the authorized
agent as an intermediary) affirming that the agent is authorized to act on
   their behalf.

Notice Regarding B2B Sites. Three of our websites, www.Atlantic57.com,
www.atlanticbrandpartners.com, and advertising.theatlantic.com (the “B2B
Sites”), are designed solely for business use and not intended for personal or
household use  Accordingly, we treat all information collected from the B2B
Sites as pertaining to individuals acting as business representatives, rather
than in their individual capacity  We do not “sell” any information collected
from your use of the B2B Sites, as that term is defined by the CCPA.

Notice Regarding California Residents We Know to Be Under the Age of 16.
California residents we know to be younger than 16 years of age will by default
be treated as though they have exercised a request to opt out of the sale of
their Personal Information with respect to information provided directly to us
(as opposed to information automatically collected from them through technical
means). We do not permit such users to opt-in to the sale of their Personal
Information, unless they provide proof that they are no longer under the age of
16.

Third Party Processing Partners: Below is a list of the third party data
processing partners with which we have a direct relationship, the categories of
data processing they provide to us, and links to their privacy policies (which
may provide more information about their use of your data and how to exercise
your rights to opt-out of that usage)  Please note that this list does not
include advertisers (with whom we have no direct relationship) who advertise on
our websites through ad serving networks. Because our Services are under
constant development, this list may be modified and updated on an ongoing basis.
