Unfortunately, it is common to feel your therapist is not fully present in the session. Perhaps your therapist is regurgitating the same information with each visit. Many therapists take on a large caseload of clients and this can quickly lead to burn out. In this scenario the therapist is not able to fully engage in the session and actually process with you versus just hand out the same information they give to all of their other clients. I keep a small caseload of clients at a time in an effort to prevent the clients that I work with from having similar complaints. You don’t have to speak through a receptionist, you can call me directly, even during after-hours. SCHEDULE A COUNSELING APPOINTMENT WITH ME Book Now LEARN THE TOOLS TO MANAGE YOUR DISTRESS EYE MOVEMENT RAPID DESENSITIZATION (EMDR) A therapy for relieving symptoms of trauma. The process involves visualization often paired with eye movement exercises to process traumatic memories, desensitize triggers, and adapt to future distress. What is EMDR? EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED THERAPY (EFT) Helping couples identify dysfunctional patterns of interaction. These patterns create further disconnection in the relationship. Disagreements and conflict are healthy and can help bring couples closer together when they are able to hear one another and understand where the other is coming from. What is EFT? DIALECTICAL BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (DBT) Specifically created for working with Borderline Personality clients and self harming clients. I find that all of my clients benefit from DBT to some degree as it teaches ways of coping that help decrease distress and increase emotional awareness. I use DBT with clients who are using short-term coping strategies to relieve distress, but these coping strategies are causing more problems for them in the long run, such as suicidal ideation, self harm, disordered eating, and substance use. What is DBT? IF YOU ARE IN A CRISIS OR ANY OTHER PERSON MAY BE IN DANGER - DON'T USE THIS SITE. THESE RESOURCES CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH IMMEDIATE HELP.
