Patrick Lencioni is founder and president of The Table Group, a firm dedicated
to helping leaders improve their organizations’ health since 1997. His
principles have been embraced by leaders around the world and adopted by
organizations of virtually every kind including multinational corporations,
entrepreneurial ventures, professional sports teams, the military, nonprofits,
schools, and churches.
Lencioni is the author of ten business books with over three million copies sold
worldwide. His work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business
Review, Fortune, Bloomberg Businessweek, and USA Today.
Prior to founding The Table Group, Lencioni served on the executive team at
Sybase, Inc. He started his career at Bain & Company and later worked at Oracle

If you, like I did in the past, do not fully understand why certain aspects of
work energize and motivate you and your team and other aspects are draining, but
they vary between person, then order Working Genius for you and them TODAY, Now!
After reading Working Genius, and may I boldly suggest, taking the assessment,
you will be able to better understand yourself, your team, and adjust work to
maximize everyone’s “genius.”Working Genius and the assessment have been
invaluable for our team, even our family. Understanding that my desire to solve
problem (Invention) and to rally folks around an idea (Galvanizing) makes sense
and also understanding my “frustrations” of Tenacity and Enablement have been
very helpful because I had been questioning my real value to our team when I am
not excited and feel drained around taking a project to completion on my own.
Rallying the team around the idea I can do, taking it to the end, it is
draining.In our marriage it helped me understand that my bride’s “Genius” of
Discernment is not her way to criticizing my ideas randomly (business or
otherwise) but to help ensure that the things I or we attempt are fruitful.The
Working Genius also gives us language to use when moving through a project. In
the beginning we need to think about a problem to be solved, ways to fix it,
arguing the merits until a decision is reached and then move forward with
rallying the team, encouraging them through the process until we have finished
it. As we move through the three key stages it enables the team to let the
wonderer know that since we have decided on a solution that questioning it
further at this point is not what we need to focus on. Or they can remind me
that once we are into the enablement and tenacity phase we do not need
additional solutions, but need to focus on pushing through to the end.

As a certified facilitator of Patrick Lencioni's 6 Types of Working Genius, I
have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the companion book to the
certification. The recently released book, The 6 Types of Working Genius: is,
like all of Lencioni's books, a business fable that shares a theory in a
fictional setting so we can easily understand and implement the ideas.
This book is a bit different in that it is an autobiography! The characters are
(mostly) real - with a few name changes and character composites. But knowing
the backstory of how Lencioni arrived at this model IS the story that is
captured in the book!
The premise of the book is quite simple: every task has six elements and while
we can DO each of these tasks, TWO are our "genius" - it gives us energy and joy
and is pretty much our default happy place. We also have two that are our
"frustrations" - those things we don't like to do, and two that we are competent
at.
While some people might view this as a personality profile, it's more of a
productivity tool in making sure we have our people in the "right seats on the
bus" and maximizing their gifts! It also explains why some very competent
people are suffering from burnout....because we heap so much on them because
they can do a good job, but it is not their genius - happy spot!
It's a quick and easy read - and worthwhile to have a team discussion about how
the six working geniuses apply to your team!

The 6 Types of Working Genius by Patrick Lencioni creates a framework and a
common language for us to overcome false narratives we make about ourselves and
others and unlocked a tool that allows us to identify what brings us joy and
fulfillment in an easy-to-understand yet powerful way. The Working Genius model
and assessment is simple, practical, and transformational. Patrick Lencioni's
premise is that all work has six steps, but we only get energy, joy and
fulfillment from two of them. This book and the model gives the reader language
for how to celebrate the unique contributions of each member of a team and
provides a framework for how we can get more work done, in less time, and have
more fun doing it by leaning in to our God given gifts. It also helps to avoid
burnout and shed unnecessary shame by recognizing our working frustrations. For
people who follow his Working Genius podcast there is not any new info but it is
a fun read and the Exploring the Model section at the end of the book provides a
nice summary of the 6 Types of Working Genius and why it is important for a team
to know the Working Genius of their team members and to make sure gaps are
addressed and how to use the model to make meetings more effective by being
clear about the purpose of the meeting and the Geniuses needed. I was a bit
disappointed that the book did not go into the pairings as this has been
presented on the podcast but perhaps he wanted to avoid information overload and
another book will be written to focus on the pairings.

Great book. Easy read. Life-changing content.
I'm one of those people who loves personality assessments, but even with my own
Myers Briggs or Strenghtsfinders, I have found that it's easy to lose track of
all of the letters and details. As soon as you do, you lose track of the tool
and its impact disappears. For me, Working Genius has been different. Like with
all of his models, Lencioni simplifies things down to the most practical version
possible while still keeping a remarkable amount of depth.
For example, my wife and I realized that we struggle so much to finish things
because we both have a Tenacity Frustration. I realized that no matter how well
I did in the role, the reason my sales job burned me out was that it required me
to operate in my two areas of frustration and ignore my two geniuses. I've even
had a chance to help other leaders understand why their colleagues get on their
nerves even when they're well-intentioned. Can't speak highly enough of this
book and the potential that it can help teams and individuals tap into.

Did you know that your teammates and you each have two of six unique gifts or
working genius as the author shows you in his unique business parable style?
Patrick M. Lencioni is well known for his business fiction that teaches a lesson
and then follows it up with learning that goes in-depth to cover his ideas.
This book was fun to read and enjoyable to learn these lessons!
The topic was easy to understand and helpful to provide reasoning for why some
teams seem to fail when the team assembled appears at its face to be excellent -
> they might be missing one, or more, of the working genius types!
I highly recommend that you check this book out!

Good material.
Was disappointed in the fable and unnecessary language used in it..
Material was not as clear as his other books
I think pats book on the 5 dysfunctions of a team is soo much better.
Overall his writing is excellent and would read another if it came out. This
just wasn't my favorite.
I think if your going to add that your a person of faith, keep the language out

Should be mandatory reading for everyone interested in having better work
relationships, be better at their jobs and their home life, and interested in
improving their joy factor (in both situations). The overall concept has
incredible impact for all businesses, teams and leaders; but it also has great
applicability to our personal lives as well. Pat spins a simple but realistic
story along to 'teach' the concept as we read. It will change your thinking
about 'tasks' and 'jobs' forever.

This book is a fantastic read for leaders & teams...even couples! This model
brought clarity for strengths that I knew I had but couldn't articulate or see
how they fit into the process of work. We typically see the "real work" as being
what is tangible and visible. But there's a lot of value in the work that
happens prior to those activities as well. This model provides language to both
identify, appreciate & utilize the value that everyone on the team has to give
through their Geniuses.
