I bought this reel and a spare spool to a bit of light salt/estuary fishing. The
main reason for the purchase was that the original reel I bought didnt seem to
have much capacity for backing - the Sword has a mid size arbor which can hold a
lot more.
It took awhile to get on the water but in practice and for the first part of the
session the reel seemed to be very suitable. It got dropped in the sand and the
sea a couple of times and it didnt seem to harm it - I knew I would be giving it
a good rinse out at home afterward anyway.
There was a moment when playing a small fish when I noticed the drag knob
loosening slightly without any help from me - that wasnt such a big issue for a
30 cm fish but it caused a minor tangle in the line so I removed the spool to
free the line and the cap on the spool just fell off! Again - not a major issue
but it could have been , waist deep in water so I made a mental note of that.
There is a graphite ring that seemed to hold it in place that was still
there..but when I went back to casting it was obvious that some kind of spring
had also fallen off because the spool was now moving sideways inside the reel,
completely wobbling from side to side and disengaging from the drag. This house
of cards type build quality only becomes apparent when one thing goes wrong - if
I hadnt noticed it when (or if) the big one bit then it would have been pretty
shattering.
It seems fixable - I have the other spool - but I dont feel confident in the
assembly of this reel.. The finish and machining of the spool and reel is
terrific and the drag system seems very robust - but for one little piece to
disappear and have the whole reel dysfunctional is not good.

The reel works... period...I have been catching Yellowfish and Catfish here in
South Africa and no problems at all. Drag is smooth as silk , I have 5/6 Wt 7/8
and 9/10 wt reels . The only thing I would like to see is a slightly wider reeel
as now on my 9/10 with a running line and Skadgit heaqd there is very little
space for my backing which could be limiting. I would recommend these reels to
anyone. Finish is good .

I have been using these reels since 2018 and have 3 with extra spools. The cork
friction disc disintegrated in one and I recently contacted Piscifun. They
didn't have any spare discs at the time but said they would send me one when
they did. Two months later a package arrives with two replacement discs, now
made from what seems like a synthetic weaved material... Superb service! The
reels themselves have been good performers for me. Easy to take a part and
maintain. The drag can slacken off over a days fishing now and again but this is
a minor quibble. I use them with the Piscifun fly rod and have had many trout
with this setup.
