BUILDING RESILIENCY: EXPLORING ALTERNATIVES TO CHINA FOR YOUR BUSINESS OPERATIONS February 9, 2023 9:00 am - February 9, 2023 10:00 am Webinar DESCRIPTION Strict governance regimes in Hong Kong and mainland China are increasingly having an impact on companies with interests in the region. With the current environment around US-China and EU-China relations and the forecast for geopolitical, economic, and security risks, companies are looking at alternatives for manufacturing, supply chain, and business operations. Some are exploring a relocation to places like Vietnam, Indonesia, and other SE Asia countries. These countries, however, have their own business risks that companies need to consider, including infrastructure issues, financial stability, protectionist policies, social evolution, and trade restrictions, among others. And there may be some compelling advantages that China has that may be hard to walk away from. Join our panel as they discuss the risks and opportunities in the broader APAC business operating environment and offer their perspectives on some of the likely candidates that companies are evaluating. SPEAKERS RODGER BAKER Executive Director, Stratfor Center for Applied Geopolitics Rodger Baker leads Stratfor's analysis of Asia Pacific and South Asia and guides the company's forecasting process. A Stratfor analyst since 1997, he has played a pivotal role in developing and refining the company's analytical process, internal training programs and geopolitical framework. Baker develops custom reports for clients and frequently delivers executive briefings to investors, businesses and universities across the globe, from the National Defense University in Beijing to financial institutions in New York. He is regularly invited to participate in dialogues and panel discussions in China, Japan, Thailand, Mongolia and South Korea. CHASE BLAZEK Asia-Pacific Analyst Chase Blazek is an Asia-Pacific Analyst at RANE, where he focuses on Chinese policy and the geopolitical impacts of China's rise, as well as the shifting landscapes surrounding Hong Kong and Taiwan. Prior to joining RANE, he served with the Foreign Commercial Service at the U.S. Consulate in Chengdu, China, and worked as a Southeast Asia market analyst for the US-ASEAN Business Council. Chase holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a master's degree in International Affairs from the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University. MARKUS JAEGER Global Economy Analyst, RANE Markus Jaeger is a Global Economy Analyst at RANE and an adjunct professor at Columbia University. Previously he worked at Deutsche Bank in New York and London where he held a variety of advisory and research roles. He has extensive experience analyzing the global economy, international trade and global capital markets, as well as sovereign and political risk issues. Markus attended the Sciences Po university in Paris, France, and holds a master's degree and doctorate from the London School of Economics. NATE FISCHLER Asia-Pacific Analyst, RANE Nate Fischler is an Asia-Pacific Analyst at RANE, and he focuses primarily on China, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. He holds a master's degree in International Studies from the Johns Hopkins University-Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies. Nate spent over a decade living, studying and working in China, Vietnam and Cambodia.
