Frequently Asked Questions How does VA use monetary donations? Monetary donations are used to support inpatients, outpatients, homeless Veterans, caregivers of Veterans, and others being treated in VA facilities. Donors can support the general fund, allowing facilities to use donations wherever the greatest need is identified, or identify a specific program such as transportation services, special events, residential care units, or any of the other unique services VA offers. Is there a minimum monetary donation amount? When donating online using the Pay.gov platform, the minimum donation is $5.00. If you choose to donate at a facility in person, there is no minimum. Is my donation tax deductible? Yes, donations to support any of VA's programs are tax deductible, whether you direct that donated funds be used for a specific purpose, or allow VA to decide how they will be used. In addition, 100% of your donation goes to the facility you choose to benefit Veteran's programs and services. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has specific guidance for tax deductibility of donations or volunteer time to charitable organizations found in IRS Publication 526: Charitable Contributions. How can I select a VA Medical Center to make my donation? You can find medical centers through our website at www.va.gov. E-Donate buttons are available on the individual medical center websites. Clicking on the E-Donate button takes you directly to our secure donation portal. Will my credit card and bank information be safe if I donate online? Yes, paying online with Pay.gov is safe, secure, and the preferred method to make a payment. What information do I need to provide in order to donate? We ask donors to complete a short form providing their name, address, program for donation (general or specific program) and donation amount. You may also include if you are making a donation in honor or memory of an individual. Who can I call if I have questions about donating? Th VA Financial Service Center Customer Support can help with Pay.gov questions by email at VAFSCCSHD@va.gov or by phone toll-free at (877) 353-9791. Questions about facility donations can be directed to the specific facility found at www.va.gov. If I donate online can I do so by bank account or by credit card? Yes, donations can be made online using either your bank account or your credit card.
