THE BENEFITS OF POWERING YOUR HOME WITH ELECTRICITY

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Switching to electric-based solutions can help you save money, use less energy,
and be more comfortable while lowering your carbon emissions. Make the change by
replacing your older, outdated, fossil-fuel-burning appliances—like furnaces,
water heaters, and even cars—with electric-based ones.

HERE'S HOW GOING ELECTRIC CAN IMPROVE YOUR HOME AND LIFESTYLE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Discover all the different ways that electrification can make a difference for
you and your family.
Click on one of the highlighted products below to learn more.
Electric Thermal Storage (ETS)
An ETS is the most comfortable way to heat your home. An ETS system enables
time-of-day rates which allow savings of up to 40% on home heating costs, as
well as the rest of your energy costs in your home.
Learn more about ETS
Heat Pump
Heat pumps are the most efficient and affordable way to heat your home. Not only
that, in the summer they can cool and dehumidify your home, too. The latest
models are effective on most winter days, and can cost less than half of what it
costs to operate an oil-fired furnace or boiler.
Learn more about heat pumps
Electric Vehicle
Switching to an electric vehicle can save you up to $2,000 a year as they use
much less energy to operate. Plus, you can reduce your carbon footprint from
driving by as much as 50%. EVs are reliable, easy to maintain, affordable to
drive, and the newest models have a range of over 300km.
Learn more about EVs
Electric Vehicle Smart Charging
A level-2 smart charger charges your electric vehicle quickly, easily, and
safely. It connects to your home's WiFi, and gives you total control of your EV
charging cycles, and insight into your charging patterns and costs.
Learn more about EV smart charging
Water Heater
The newest electric water heaters supply your home with all the hot water you
need, for less. And since they don't require combustible fuels - like oil or
natural gas water heaters do - they're typically safer too. Upgrade to a heat
pump water heater and you get the most efficient hot water system on the market.
Learn more about water heaters
Home Battery
With a home battery, you can benefit in two ways. First, you can store energy
(from either the grid or solar panels) which you can then use in the event of an
outage. Second, if you have time-of-day rates, you can charge them overnight,
when rates are lower, and use that power the next day.
Learn more about home batteries
Rooftop Solar
Solar panels are a zero-emissions way to convert solar energy to electricity.
The power you generate is first used in your home, and any excess is
automatically sold to Nova Scotia Power and added to the grid.
Learn more about rooftop solar
Smart Meter
A smart meter gives you more convenience, reliability, and control over your
energy use. With a smart meter, you can monitor your daily power usage in real
time using MyEnergy Insights; set up energy-use and billing notifications; and
get a more efficient response in the event of an outage.
Learn more about smart meters
Service Panel
Your electrical panel is where the power that comes into your home is split up
to power the outlets, lights, and appliances in your home. As you consider home
electrification, you need to understand the size of your current service panel
and whether or not it's adequate to handle your current and future needs.
Learn more about service panels
Ebike
Active transportation doesn't get more fun, healthy, and low (or no) emissions
than biking. eBikes make it easier for more people to choose cycling because
they have an electrical assist motor that makes it easier to go up hills, haul a
trailer, and go long distances. Charge it up at night and you're good to go
tomorrow.

THREE BIG WAYS YOU’LL BENEFIT FROM MAKING THE SWITCH

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SAVE MONEY

Switching to electric-based solutions is the best way to save on your home’s
biggest energy costs.

LOWER EMISSIONS

Electric-based solutions for your home use less energy than ever. And the more
renewables we add to the grid, the less carbon emissions for everyone.

CONTROL AND COMFORT

Electric-based solutions work seamlessly with smart home technology, allowing
for full control and maximum comfort.

ELECTRIFYING YOUR HOME HEATING GIVES YOU THE BIGGEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Electrification can save you money when it comes to heating. In Nova Scotia,
home heating and water heating are, by far, the biggest energy users. You can
see in the graph below that home space heating alone can account for over 60% of
a home’s entire energy spend. Add water heating to the mix, and you’re at 81% of
a typical home’s energy spending. So, for most people, the first consideration
should be electrifying their space and water heating.
