COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course unpacks the elements of leadership that underpin
innovative school transitions to deeper learning. Based on research on school
leaders in many different contexts that were implementing similar deeper
learning practices, the course provides insights into leadership for the school
vision, instructional practices, teacher development, organizational assets, and
community relations. In doing so, participants will get access to a leadership
protocol that provides guidance on how to lead for deeper learning changes in
your own context.


WORKSHOP #1 (August 24): What is Deeper Learning? With Drs. Jayson Richardson &
Justin Bathon
Accompany the authors of the book “Leadership for Deeper Learning” (2021) Jayson
Richardson and Justin Bathon as they share how school leaders have implemented,
sustained, and pushed innovative, deeper learning opportunities in their school
settings.

During our workshop, you will:

 * Hear about practices that are changing schools and leading to deeper learning
   experiences across seven categories of innovative practice―including vision,
   agency in learning, trust in teachers, openness to new ideas,
   over-communicating change, equity mindedness, and courage to live outside
   norms.

 

WORKSHOP #2 (August 31): How Do We Engage in Deeper Learning? With Drs. Scott
McLeod, Jayson Richardson, & Justin Bathon
Continue to connect with authors of the book “Leadership for Deeper Learning”
(2021) Jayson Richardson, Scott McLeod, and Justin Bathon as they share ideas
and tools to rethink and reignite learning for the future.

During our workshop, we will:

 * Unpack the instructional practices and potential inherent in deeper learning
   schools and classrooms
 * Engage in lesson / unit redesign for deeper learning, greater student agency,
   more authentic work, and rich technology infusion
 * Discuss how school leaders can change the status quo and create different
   learning environments for students and teachers.
