MICROSOFT MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION (MFA)

Miami Dade College uses MFA to authenticate users to college resources. See
below for more information regarding setup, modifying and other MFA frequently
asked questions.

If you have already setup your MFA account and would like to make changes such
as adding additional authentication methods and / or changing your default
authentication method, log in to: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info

If you have NOT setup your Microsoft Authenticator application please see the
guide below.

FOR VPN AUTHENTICATION

You MUST have your DEFAULT MFA authentication method set to either: App based
authentication - notification OR Phone - call.

Text message (SMS) or Security Key/Hardware Token methods are NOT currently
supported. You can change your default authentication method by signing in to:
https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info


FAQS

What if I changed my phone?

If you change your phone and you still have the old phone available, then please
start by installing the Microsoft Authenticator App on your new phone. Then
proceed to set up Microsoft Authenticator. Please refer to the MFA guide.
If you do NOT have your old phone available please do not hesitate to contact
your local Campus IT Service Desk, or email us at ithelpdesk@mdc.edu

What if I changed my phone number?

If you change your phone number, then you will need to proceed to My Account,
update any sign-in methods that require your phone number. If you need a
reference on how to do this, then please refer to the Self-Service section under
“Updating Sign-In Method”.

What if I changed my phone and phone number?

If you change your phone and phone number, then you will need to contact an IT
Administrator to help you reset your account MFA methods.

What if I have to reinstall Microsoft Authenticator on my phone?

If you must reinstall Microsoft Authenticator, then you will need to proceed to
My Account, update the Authenticator sign-in method. If you need a reference on
how to do this, then please refer to the Self-Service section under “Updating
Sign-In Method”.

What if I need to add an extra phone?

If you need to add an extra phone, for Microsoft Authenticator you can navigate
to My Account , then you can simply add a sign-in method. If you need a
reference on how to do this, then please refer to the Self-Service section under
“Updating Sign-In Method”.

Can we use the passwordless option in MFA?

Currently this option is not supported by MDC and will not be available

What if I don’t have a phone or don’t want to use the mobile application?

Please refer to the View additional MFA setup options.

How can I change my default authentication method?

First, sign in to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
Click on “Change” next to “Default sign-in method”. From the drop down menu
select the desired method. App based authentication – notification is
Recommended.

Why my authentication method does not work for my VPN Connection (Employees)?

You MUST have your DEFAULT MFA authentication method set to either:
App based authentication – notification OR Phone – call.

supported.
