THE CATTLE

The cattle begin the year on what we call our mountain ranch ranging in
elevation from 1,400 to 4,000 feet where they remain until they are gathered and
processed in early June, after which they are sorted and then relocated. The
premium primal cut steers remain on the mountain ranch where they are finished
on the high protein high mountain grass until they are sent to the butcher in
early to mid August. The remainder of the herd is sent to the sub irrigated
pastures in the valley for the summer. In mid October, they are transferred back
to the mountain ranch just as the new green grass becomes available. None of our
animals stay in the herd if they require hormones or antibiotics.

THE RANCH

The Capistran Ranch is located in North Eastern Mendocino County near the town
of Covelo. The ranch is approximately 16,000 acres with terrain that includes
Oak studded grass lands and mature timber stands of fir and pine. The ranch also
includes roughly 1,300 acres of flat sub irrigated valley land that serves as
hay fields as well as summer grazing pastures.


HIGHER PROTEIN GRASS 

Dry grass finish

We have found that finishing on natural dry mountain grass or high protein grass
hay produces the absolute finest beef. We have sold ½ and whole beef portions to
friends and family for 5 years and have 100% satisfaction and customers that
would have it finished no other way.

THE RANCH PRODUCES APPROXIMATELY 1,000 TONS OF HIGH QUALITY ORCHARD GRASS HAY
PUT UP IN BOTH ROUND AND SQUARE BALES. THE HAY IS AVAILABLE AT BOTH THE LOCAL
COVELO FEED STORE AS WELL AS DIRECT FROM THE RANCH IN BULK QUANTITIES.
