GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY/NEWS

MONAGHAN LEAHY, LLP IS PROUD TO WELCOME THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONAL ATTORNEYS TO
OUR FIRM BEGINNING JULY 1, 2023:

Martica “Tica” A. Douglas has been a leader in the Maine Bar since 1977.  She
specializes in civil litigation of all types and has tried dozens of cases to
Maine juries.  Tica is also experienced in appellate law, medical malpractice
and insurance coverage matters.  We welcome her sage advice and legal knowledge.

Alison A. Denham has Midwest roots and a Mainer’s common sense.  She began her
practice in 1982 and is experienced in civil matters, including insurance
defense, worker’s compensation, and Longshore claims. We look forward to Alison
joining our team.

Deborah A. Buccina is a Maine native and started her legal career as a
prosecutor with the York County District Attorney’s office in 1981.  Since then,
she has enjoyed a successful civil litigation practice arguing hundreds of cases
before Maine juries.  She has used that vast knowledge and experience to focus
on ADR and we are excited that Deb will continue in that role with us.

Christine Kennedy-Jensen was raised in Auburn and began her legal career in
1999.  She focuses on civil litigation, including insurance defense and family
law.  She is an experienced trial lawyer and will continue to provide excellent
legal advice and services to all her clients.  We are eager for Christine to
become a member of Monaghan Leahy.

The ML Team enjoyed a wonderful evening celebrating the holiday season recently.
We were joined by several of our former colleagues and a fun time was had by
all!

In a recent appeal handled by John Wall and Laura Maher, the United States Court
of Appeals for the First Circuit upheld summary judgment in favor of Monaghan
Leahy’s clients: York County, the York County Sheriff, and several sheriff’s
deputies. The deputies responded to a disturbance in Acton, which resulted in
the plaintiff’s arrest. Arguing that the arrest was not supported by probable
cause, the plaintiff claimed that the deputies violated his constitutional
rights and engaged in malicious prosecution. Monaghan Leahy demonstrated that
the deputies had ample probable cause to justify the arrest and the federal
district court granted all defendants summary judgment. The First Circuit agreed
that the deputies’ actions were lawful: “On this record, no reasonable jury
could find facts that would lead to a determination that the officers lacked
probable cause to arrest Charron.” The full text of the First Circuit’s decision
can be found here: 21-1753P-01A.pdf (uscourts.gov).
