We were joined by several of our former colleagues and a fun time was had by all! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In a recent appeal handled by John Wall and Laura Maher, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit upheld summary judgment in favor of Monaghan Leahy’s clients: York County, the York County Sheriff, and several sheriff’s deputies. The deputies responded to a disturbance in Acton, which resulted in the plaintiff’s arrest. Arguing that the arrest was not supported by probable cause, the plaintiff claimed that the deputies violated his constitutional rights and engaged in malicious prosecution. Monaghan Leahy demonstrated that the deputies had ample probable cause to justify the arrest and the federal district court granted all defendants summary judgment. The First Circuit agreed that the deputies’ actions were lawful: “On this record, no reasonable jury could find facts that would lead to a determination that the officers lacked probable cause to arrest Charron.” The full text of the First Circuit’s decision can be found here: 21-1753P-01A.pdf (uscourts.gov). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RECOGNITIONS We at Monaghan Leahy wish our partners Tom Leahy and Cornelia Fuchs, health, happiness and enjoyment in their much deserved retirements. We also send them our heartfelt thanks and deep gratitude for helping make Monaghan Leahy such a wonderful place. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Congratulation to Attorneys Matthew Libby and Laura Maher for being named 2022 New England Rising Stars by Super Lawyers, an honor reserved for those lawyers who exhibit excellence in practice. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Congratulations to Ken Pierce for being honored as one of National Trial Lawyers 2019 Top 100 Civil Trial Lawyers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monaghan Leahy, LLP 95 Exchange Street P.O.
