FOUNDED BY AN ARTISAN.

After completing an architectural education at SCAD, with secondary training in
San Francisco, Chris Kinlaw founded MIXMA - a bespoke furniture production
practice. Kinlaw’s dominion of many production methods, including his own glazed
lava stone technique result from years of research and practice in materiality,
chemistry, and color theory.

Through his curiosity and strong will to achieve the impossible, he approaches
life with an ethos firmly rooted in logic and integrity.

Our main factory in Guadalajara is overseen by Kinlaw, where he leads master
carpenters, metalworkers, stone artisans, chemists, and upholsterers - all
working in harmony to produce furniture and fine art that sings.

FOUNDRY EXPERIMENTS

We partnered with artist Misha Kahn to produce a canonical set of chairs for an
exhibition hosted by Friedman Benda. Each chair frame is made from dozens of 3D
printed molds, cast in aluminum, seamlessly welded together and powder coated.
Upholstered by the artist in New York.


WORKING AGAINST GRAVITY

Following his inaugural show at Sight Unseen displaying a prototype, we worked
with Ian Felton to refine the fabrication method of his Mullu coffee table. We
crafted the finished piece as shown in hand-formed copper finished with a unique
automotive finish.


A MARRIAGE OF MATERIALS

French designer Margaux Lafond wowed us with many unique concepts for her NYC
townhouse project. The fruits of our collaboration are a set of glazed volcanic
stone nesting tables that seem to float on their trunk-like chiseled oak
pedestals.


WORKING IN A WIDE RANGE OF MATERIALS. USING AN EVER-EVOLVING ARSENAL OF
TECHNIQUES.




ARTISANAL WOODCRAFT

We employ an ever-growing crew of the best carpenters in Mexico. Production
capabilities include fine wood furniture, sculpture, architectural elements, and
built-in residential carpentry such as cabinets or shelves.

Using the finest joinery, performance glues, and state of the art machinery,
each wood piece produced by MIXMA is inspected many times over and in many cases
is hand finished by Chris Kinlaw, the owner and head of production. No expense
is spared in meeting the quality control demands our clients expect and deserve.


UPHOLSTERY

Our foray into upholstery began many years ago as a collaboration with Ian
Felton, an alum of the famed Parisian upholstery house, Joufree. He taught us
the fundamental elements of Old World French upholstery techniques, personally
training our team.

Our heirloom quality pieces are differentiated from the ordinary by paying
attention to all of the details you can't see. All made with solid oak internal
frames - these are the hidden details that make a piece stand the test of time.




LEATHERWORKING

There are few places with a richer history of leather artistry Mexico. We custom
tan our leather locally and work with an award-winning artisan to realize
masterworks in engraved, embroidered, and hand-stitched leather.

For projects involving more exotic types of leather, we import the material from
Italy and Argentina. On custom orders we can color match any sample you send us
using either vegetable tanning or chrome tanning methods, with a preference for
barrel dyeing for longevity.


WORKING WITH THE FINEST TEXTILE MILLS IN EUROPE AND PERU. EACH DELICATE PIECE OF
FABRIC IS HANDLED WITH THE LOVING FINESSE OF A BESPOKE TAILOR.

LEAD TIME

Most orders are completed within an 8-12 weeks timespan, with rush production
options available on a case-by-case basis.

Highly customized orders or projects requiring new or innovative production
methods may require additional time.


SHIPPING

We begin the shipping process by diligently packing all goods in custom-designed
heavy-duty wood crates. Orders are dispatched via FedEx Priority LTL service and
are privately insured for their full commercial value. Most orders have a 7-10
day transit time door-to-door.


DELIVERY

We handle all aspects of export and logistics, delivering your order to the
nearest white glove receiver to your project site.

We strive to make receiving freight as easy as possible, with minimal assembly
required.
