SEPTEMBER 2021 Hardy releases its newest addition to its extensive line of Chromogenic media plates. HardyCHROM Candida+auris detects all the clinically significant yeasts (C. albicans, tropicalis, krusei, and glabrata) and now includes Candida auris. C. auris is a potentially deadly fungus that is highly resistant to most of the anti-fungal drugs. To aid in its identification, the colonies will fluoresce under a UV light as shown above. 2021 Hardy releases yet another Chromogenic media plate that will easily detect Group A Strep (Streptococcus pyogenes) which is the cause of Strep throat infections. Clinical microbiologists appreciate the fact that the Group A Strep colonies develop a distinct red-orange color within 24 hours of incubation. Also, the colors are intensified by the pure white background. 2021 Hardy becomes the exclusive distributor the MALDI-TOF It is capable of identifying 96 samples in less than 20 minutes hands-on time. Hardy’s product is capable of monitoring environmental surfaces in the patient’s room for both spores and vegetative cells of C. difficile. This is a much needed tool (and the first of it kind) in the fight against infections due to contamination. 2016 Hardy becomes the first culture media company to offer a highly selective chromogenic medium specifically for gram negative rod ESBL organisms; sometimes referred to in the press as “superbugs.” This new medium will isolate and detect these highly resistant strains of E. coli (pictured) and Klebsiella. Growth of resistant strains occur from stool cultures in about 24 hours. Further testing can be done for confirmation. 2016 Hardy announces its partnership with Orum International, and Italian company that manufactures Trio Bas Impact Air Samplers, used to monitor air quality in clean rooms. 2016 Having maintained distribution in Utah since 1998, the Salt Lake facility is moved to a larger building, tripling the space to better serve the Rocky Mountain area. The honor of “Excellence in Employee Ownership” was awarded by Pacific Coast Business Times in Ventura, California. For Jay and Anne Hardy’s efforts in supporting higher education, The Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara presented them with the “Ambassador Award” after providing 32 scholarships between 2012 and 2015. 2015 Hardy Diagnostics releases an innovative new culture medium from its R&D: The chromogenic media, HardyCHROM™ Vibrio, will identify the three Vibrio species that are pathogenic to humans. It is the first and only product that can identify all three species of Vibrio by colony color on the Petri plate. The most common pathogen, Vibrio vulnificus, will fluoresce under a UV light as seen in the photo. 2015 Jay Hardy sells his remaining 30% ownership to the employees of Hardy Diagnostics at the end of August. The company is now 100% owned by the workers. This completes the ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) program that was started three years ago. Jay remains as the CEO, as the employees now completely own the company that they have worked so hard to become successful. 2015 Hardy announces a new alliance with Nissui Pharmaceuticals in Japan. A thin and space-efficient product, Compact Dry allows testing of bacterial and fungal counts from food samples and includes chromogenic substances for easy colony recognition by color.
