With most official duties just about done and dusted I would like to take the
opportunity to thank the Area Chairman and the rest of the EP area Exec for the
effort put into the years portfolios and I would like to encourage Joe Tabler to
take the step up and take on some more responsibility and take on positions
within table. The weekend started off with a fellowship social on the Friday
evening in the form of a braai which saw great fun had by all and the perfect
opportunity to meet all new comers.

Saturday morning the meeting started bright and early, with a great number of
Tables and Tablers in attendance. With a lot of important matters discussed and
wonderful fellowship between Tablers, the meeting was a success. The ladies were
kept busy during this time with an interesting felt-making workshop in Bathurst
at Richard Pullen's studio where they also had lunch.

The weekend ended with a black tie Induction Dinner at the Halyards Hotel where,
as usual, much fellowship and fun was had by all. I would like to say on behalf
of Port Alfred , a very big thank you to all who attended and made the weekend
such a success. Good luck to all who were inducted and we hope to see all
Tablers soon. During the meeting you could notice that the 3 were lubricating
themselves a bit more than usual. I am pretty sure that this was to try and numb
some of the pain when the pin went through their ears.

The 3 took it like champs and are now proud buffalo members, well done chaps and
please remember the rules. This club house is steeped in history and has been RT
home for many happy years. We had a clean-up not too long ago and unearthed some
interesting documents dating back to when RT was founded, come visit us to see
them.

This is one of the benefits of having a club house and being able to store
documents and pictures. We have had allot of fun this year at our club house,
the best part is that our legs also enjoyed themselves and our kiddies were
entertained in our kids room and jungle gym. The weekend first started with the
annual raft race hosted by Alex Kenton in Kenton on Sea and was won by
Swartkops. I have to say RT 10Great definitely made an impression and it was
extremely funny seeing them trying to get the titanic to the slipway.

The evening was upon us and everybody got smartened up and dress for the
occasion. We were luckily enough to have the entire venue to ourselves and it
was even better when we filled it!

The evening ran extremely smoothly and fortunately the speeches were not too
long. There was only one snag in the event and this was that RT11 Grahamstown
could not attend due to unforeseen circumstances, but the show had to go on.
This tour has been going for 25 years already and we have had many years of
fellowship with our international friends. The RT Numbers Meeting itinerary was
adjusted to take the water issues into account and luckily we still managed to
have some RT 77 international tablers joining the tour. The tour was then of to
George, where RT 30 George was our host.

We spent two fantastic nights at the George Club house, with some tablers being
inducted in the buffalo club. The international guests also enjoyed some
activities during the day. They went on the Human Origin Tour, found an old
London Bus in Mosselbay to have lunch on and a great game drive at Botlierskop
game farm. The foreigners were very lucky and saw 4 of the Big 5, only the
elusive leopard was not spotted.

We departed George on route to Port Alfred and stopped by many of the beautiful
towns along the garden route. For some of our international guests it was their
fourth trip to Port Alfred and many said it felt like coming home when they
drove over the Nico Malan Bridge. The next day we had a lovely river cruise
followed by a visit to a pineapple farm and the oldest pub in South Africa,
namely the Pig and Whistle.

That evening we had a spitbraai at our club house, where we put two different
game meats on the spit, namely an Impala and a warthog, both game meats were
provided by two of our tablers that are keen hunters. The following day started
with some sad news, Gambit the giraffe, which has been part of the tour, passed
away the day after we visited him.

Our international friends have had a close connection with Gambit from the , and
Numbers Meetings to South African.

They got to know Gambit from when he was only 2 months old, staying in one of
our 41er's garden. The last evening was the black tie gala dinner. It is
tradition for each country to perform an interruption skit on the evening. None
of us being professional, you can imagine how entertaining we were.

The evening ended off with banner exchanges and after-party drinks back at our
club house. The next day we had to bid s fond farewell to our international
friends.

Port Alfred started our Winter Knights on June 21st a bit earlier than normal We
managed to get a number of donations though this. Through this we managed to
collect a bakkie load of clothing, blankets and 2 shopping trolleys full of
groceries like tinned food, rice and other non-perishables, we also got a
generous donation of blankets from Tim Dold of PG Glass Grahamstown. RT has had
a very busy and successful year. We were very lucky to have many 41ners at the
meeting. They bring a wealth of knowledge and always check if RT is still
putting our best foot forward.

We also had an honorary 41ner Peter Charter in and his contributions to table
was immense. We are sad to see him leave, but RT is extremely lucky that Adriaan
Potgieter agreed to be the honorary 41ner in I have to say it is quite surreal
to hand over the chain to Julius, but also a big relief.

I think you will only understand this once you have done a chairman year. I
would highly recommend it, its hard work but very rewarding.

All the best to Julius and his new council in , I know RT is in good hands. My
chairman year I spent a lot of time traveling and visiting other tables. For any
tabler I would highly recommend visiting other tables, you learn a lot and get
to know your fellow tablers better. So if you haven't done it yet I would like
to encourage you and your table to get it going.

This was followed by tablers from Germany visiting as part of their African
bunda bash trip. We also had the RT world tour in Port Alfred this year. I also
visited Kirkwood RT78, my old table and enjoyed their famous steaks. Thank guys
you always make me feel welcome, see you again soon. So when the Bi-Area rolled
in I was a little bit more reserved to prevent three in a row.

Luckily Somerset East tablers where there and took the honours of the shit
shovel, thanks chaps. I have to say they won it hands down! The Jeffreys RT raid
was still one of the best I have ever been on with over 30 tablers attending,
great night was had by all. RT made me feel very welcome even though I was a bit
late and we had a fantastic night of fellowship.

Next was RT 8 with the area chair and I have to say it was a very different
experience from the previous raids. Most definitely the fastest meeting I have
been to, but Avi and his team made us feel welcome and was a great night. I was
hoping my table did not notice, needless to say I received some fines on my
return.

The next raid was Zwartkops RT and arriving first I was a bit unsure what was
happening as the venue was a small pub. But once the tablers arrived we entered
a much larger area. This was also a very good meeting and the fellowship was
great. Once there we met up with our fellow Kirkwood tablers and was invited
back to one of their houses for a great night. This is what tablers do when you
are in their town, thank you very much RT To the new tablers, pipelines and old
tablers whom have not raided yet.

Sep Cannot Praise Enough! I cannot say enough positive things about the Aloe
Lifestyle Hotel! First off, we were dropped off after a safari tour from Durban.
Our tour guide wasn't familiar with the hotel and let us know. Upon arrival to
drop us off, he was very impressed and commented that he would likely recommend
the hotel to others looking to stay in the area.

The reception area was beautifully decorated and we were immediately welcomed by
several smiling faces and offered help with our baggage. We were quickly checked
in, given an overview of the various amenities and escorted to our rooms with
umbrellas as it was raining. We stayed in a family suite which consisted of two
rooms 1 queen bed and 2 single beds as well as a living space. The suite was
spacious, very well decorated and stocked with amenities. We decided to check
out the restaurant for dinner and were not disappointed.

Again, we were warmly welcomed and service through out was very attentive. We
were checked on by not only our server, but several managers as well. Parking

immediate thought was - does it look like we party of six can't afford "that"
price or do you want to keep your event "exclusive?

The waiter came to us and insisted we pay our bill while we were still eating
and my question was what if we wanted something else. Did you honestly think we
