What is indirect tax?
Companies selling products and services are responsible for collecting indirect
tax from the buyer. The seller later files a tax return and pays these indirect
taxes to the government with the tax return. Examples of indirect tax include
sales and use tax, value-added tax (VAT), goods and services tax (GST), excise
tax, and other types of taxes. The seller is responsible for accurately applying
the correct type of tax across all jurisdictions at the time of purchase – and
the tax rates change regularly.
