JANE'S THREADS AND TREASURES

I love quilts, especially antique quilts, either applique or pieced,
and I want to share my journeys in quilting !
But, my "Threads and Treasures" sometimes include embroidery, painting, or
spinning wool
and weaving.

It is great that you are visiting, and I hope you feel at home here.
I would love it if you left a comment.

TUESDAY 19 AUGUST 2014

"...LONG TIME....NO SEE..."

Mijn laatste blogje is echt al heel lang geleden. In die tijd is er heel wat
gebeurd.
We

It is a long time ago that I wrote my last blog! In that time a lot has
happened.
At the end of June we went to Cumbria in the North of England.  We have often
been there, and it is always beautiful. I wanted to see the Castlerigg Stone
Circle near Keswick again,

en schetsen..

and sketch it...

gewoon even een vlug aquarel krabbeltje in mijn nieuwe kleine Moleskine
schetsboekje.

just a quick aquarel sketch in my new tiny Moleskine sketchbook.

Een ander favoriet plekje is Aisgill Bridge...

Another favourite spot is Aisgill Bridge...

De vele oude boerderijtjes...

Many old hill farms....

en gewoon bergen...

and just mountains...

De Eden rivier met schaapjes...

The river Eden with sheep....

en weilanden...

and fields...

Because I could not stand long with my painful hip, I often sat sketching in the
car. For example, this old road sign,

en de nieuwsgierige kalfjes...

and the nosey little calves..

Then I had my replacement hip operation, and from my hospital bed I could see a
farm with cows, so I just had to sketch that too.

Stitching did not go too well at first, because the first weeks I was in
terrible pain, which, from what I gather, was not exactly according to the book.
With two crutches I could not start very much, but there were a few motifs that
had to be stitched on the the first Love Entwined border,

met needleturn natuurlijk.

with needleturn of course.

Sweet Home blok afmaken.

Because of the medicines I could not see very well, but I managed it.
Then my beloved husband put my basket with fabrics on the table so that I could
get on with finishing my Home Sweet Home block.

It was fun putting sheep in the garden.

The sheep are from the Phebe pattern.

And now the last Home Sweet Home block is also nearly finished. It is the Willow
Street house, but to me they look more like runner beans!

Volgende keer meer over mijn nieuwe project!
Fijne dag!

Next time more about my new project!
Have a nice day!

TUESDAY 17 JUNE 2014

"WATERCOLOUR MADNESS...."

toch wel even weg.

Although I cannot walk far, because of my painful hip, we do go out from time to
time. Last week we went to Pembrokeshire, where our daughter and family were on
holiday.
First we went to see Pentre Ifan, where there was a burial place 3,500 years
ago. How did they manage to get that massive stone on top?

Then we drove on to Freshwater East, and went to the beautiful sandy beach with
the family.

I had my little watercolour box with me, so I sat down in the sand to make a few
quick sketches.

Hope wanted to paint too, and fortunately I had another little sketchbook with
me.

The view to the left was all along the coast.

Hope maakte haar tekening thuis af.

Hope finished her drawing at home.

At home I have done some more painting, still trying to get to grips with
watercolour, instead of my usual oil paints. First flowers along the roadside
verge, from a photo I took in Scotland.

Then I painted a scene in North Wales. I saw a sketch in a book by James
Fletcher-Watson, and he mentioned the colours he used, and also his way of
working, so that seemed a good exercise, especially because we were often there
on holiday.

Another exercise from one of his books, a black and white sketch of Cockley Beck
in the Lake District, with minimal instructions this time.

Then I thought it would be fun to look in my old sketchbooks, and I found a farm
in North Wales, sketched in 1993.

It was April, so I wanted to keep the colours soft and light.

I am also trying to do a small cloud study every day, and last night, about ten
o' clock, there was a most amazing sky with lots of colours in it.

Perhaps you would like to see the neighbours? These are on the other side of the
road.

This is a very strange pair in the hill field on the side of the house....

And this mare and her foal came from another field, and we see them when we sit
in our dining room...Lots to see around here!

Tenslotte nog een mooie zonsondergang. Bijna elke avond is het weer anders.

I shall end with a beautiful sunset. They are different every evening.

Fijne dag!

Have a nice day!

Jane
