WHY: THE REASON BEHIND THE PROJECT

What is this all about:

Our processes and ERP landscape have successfully brought us to where we are
today. Traction is a well-established supplier, a highly technical and reliable
partner for our railway customers and of course eMobility customers in future.

However, as the world around us presents more and more challenges in terms of
digitalization, we also need to evolve our processes and ERP landscape to
continue this successful journey - meeting the constantly increasing customer
expectations.

That is why we are embarking on a journey to replace our current ERP landscape.
This is an unique opportunity to take the way we work today to the next level.
We have the once in a lifetime opportunity to define and develop the processes
and tools that we as Motion Traction need, to best serve our customers at an
optimized operational cost base.

We are going to write our digital transformation story together!

WHAT : THE PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The purpose of the project is to continue to deliver our market-competitive
solutions at optimized operating costs, based on globally aligned and
transparent processes.

We want to offer our customers a digitized value chain that contributes to a
positive and cost-effective customer experience.



 

To have our end-to-end processes supported by a seamless integration of all our
applications, which also takes into account our data, is what we will be
striving for.

HOW: PROJECT EXECUTION

How are we going to get to our new ERP landscape?

The Customer Journey and Customer Experience will be the strong foundation on
which we build our future ERP and tool landscape. Once we have defined the
internal and external customer requirements, we can define the necessary
processes to end up with the systems and data we need.

In our latest Traction strategy, we have put the customer at the center of
everything we do. Our ERP journey will be guided by this principle and we will
follow the human-centered approach.



 

 

Human centered ERP & Business Transformation usually starts at the point where
we define "how our customers want to be served" in the future. What will be the
so-called "customer journey" and the expected "customer experience" that our
customers expect to experience while dealing with ABB Traction.



 

More on the "The Human-centered" planning

Creating a successful change, business needs to identify an undeserved need,
validate your idea, and craft an effective value proposition. When you are
taking these steps, one way to ensure you’re on the right path is to bring
prospective customers into the process and leverage human-centered design. By
doing that you will be able to develop products and services that customer will
adopt and embrace.

Human-centered design is a problem-solving technique that puts real people at
the center of the development process.

It will enable you to create products and services that resonate and are
tailored to your audience’s needs.

The goal is to keep users’ needs, pain points, and preferences clear in mind
during every phase of the process. This will lead you to build more intuitive,
accessible products that are likely to turn a higher profit because your
customers have already vetted the solution and feel more invested in using it.



 

Inspiration

This first phase is dedicated to learning from your customers. Rather than
develop products based on preconceived notions about what you think they want,
you take the time to discover what they actually want.

The inspiration phase requires empathy - the capability of understanding another
person’s experiences and emotions. You need to put yourself in your users’ shoes
and ask questions to determine what products they’re currently using, why and
how they’re using them, and the challenges they’re trying to solve.

The methodologies used are simple and visual. Human-centered planning is
executed by a development collective, consisting of stakeholders,
cross-organizational representatives, and experts who have insights and know-how
about the demand and segment.

The picture below is an example of a human-centered design results.




HOW: HOWSPACE STRUCTURE

Howspace workspace includes:

 * Landing page called "welcome!" (this page)
 * Pre-assignment page
 * Customer journey assignment

As the project continues new pages will be published. All pages can be found in
the header at the top of the screen.

Your insights will be gathered in 3 phases following the customer journey



Each phase will be analyzed in the light of two main customer types - relevant
for Motion Traction.

1. Product Business (Motion: Standard products)

A standard product is a product that is either available off the shelf or can be
configured by selecting the required configuration. The products are fully
developed and can be "selected" by a potential customer. The definition of
hardware and pricing is complete and ideally implemented in CQP tools. No
project management and engineering is required as the product and its
configurations have been defined in advance by Product Management. (e.g. ESS
Strings, Battery chargers, eMobility Drives)

2. Project Business (Motion: Custom products / Customer specific projects)

We understand the engineer to order projects as custom products. In the classic
sense, we receive a specification and start developing/engineering and
customizing according to the customer's needs. The product definition and
engineering of the product takes place once the project is sold. (e.g.
Propulsion and Auxiliary Converters, eMobility and Railway Systems)

Sales Professionals

As a salesperson, you are our face and voice of the customer. You can share your
extensive experience and provide your insights into how "your" customer wants to
be served. You probably also have your own vision of what a lean and efficient
sales channel should look like.

 

Product Line Managers

As our Product Line Managers, you can bring your vision of how you want to
structure your business to continue writing Traction's success story and drive
the fast emerging presence of digitalization.

 

Function Leads and selected Special Matter Experts

As Tractions Function Leads and selected Special Matter Expert you bridge the
front end view to future future optimized processes.
