The band toured New Zealand during New Zealand Music Month in May 2005 with the
support of other New Zealand bands 48May and Goodnight Nurse. It was used in
several films and video games including Elite Beat Agents, MVP Baseball 2004,
and MLB 2005. The song debuted at No. 19 on the UK Singles Chart. The video,
directed by Michel Gondry, was nominated for four MTV music awards. Their big
break came with the release of "Walkie Talkie Man", which was used for iPod
advertisements, and its music video, in which characters and objects were
created by knitting puppets and animating them using stopmotion. These points
proved to be very successful and rewarding for Steriogram as a new band. This
was where Steriogram relied on the support of fans, to hand out the promo CDs
and stickers. This was sent to the fan via mail and contained promo CDs that had
five of the tracks to be featured on their upcoming CD, and many stickers. On
the site fans were able to join up for the band’s newsletter and then eventually
to what was known as a "fan street pack". The other factor was their Internet
site and the use of fans' loyalty. First, the national school tour helped to
generate a wider fan base. There were two main factors contributing to
Steriogram’s immediate success. Three songs from Sing the Night Away featured on
singles from the album: "Sing the Night Away", "Free" and "Big Lady Loving". In
addition to "White Trash", five more tracks from it were released as singles: "
Walkie Talkie Man", "Roadtrip", "Go", "Tsunami" and "On and On". 2004 saw the
release of their debut album Schmack!. While recording at a rented beach house
in 2002 they were contacted by a scout for American label Capitol Records, who
had come upon their music video for "White Trash" on the website, and were
signed to Capitol Records later that year. Videos were made for the songs "Sing
The Night Away" and "Free". During the tour they released the EP Sing the Night
Away, which contained five tracks: "Sing the Night Away", "Free", "Big Lady
Loving", "White Trash (DLT remix)" and "West Side!". In 2002, still unsigned,
they joined several other New Zealand bands in the inaugural Boost Mobile
School's Tour, playing for free during high school lunch hours to get exposure,
as well as at bars at night. Steriogram toured New Zealand in a friend's van
without any support crew, doing gigs where they could. From then they started
writing more of their songs with a hip hop influence. They then recruited mutual
friend Jared Wrennall from Balclutha, as drummer and became a five-piece. They
made a video for "White Trash" with drummer Kennedy rapping and it got so much
exposure they decided he should stop drumming and move to the front of the stage
to rap. Their second recording, "White Trash", released in August 2001, was more
successful. It had three tracks, "Chiqboom", "Soccerstar" and "Aeroplane". They
released the EP Soccerstar in December that year. They started performing as a
melodic rock four-piece band with a manic live show. Steriogram was formed in
June 1999 by Brad Carter and Jake Adams, two friends from Whangarei, who joined
with Tyson Kennedy and Tim Youngson, two friends from Auckland. History

" Walkie Talkie Man" was used in an advertisement for the iPod and a number of

exception is Ceres Athena, which I think was formed when women were first
admitted to Yale. The last 10 are more recently formed (probably in the past
10-15 years or so). The First 10 on the list have been around for decades. Whips
and Chains (all female and sort of a joke) strikes me as just one of those
peculiar college traditions like fraternities painting a certain campus monument
a different color every week.ĭid my D join a secret society? Who knows? It's a
secret, after all! The secretiveness - the anonymous invitations, the masked
interviewers, the blindfolded walks through the campus, etc.

I do not believe they consist of a plot to rule the world, rather they're a plot
to have fun and bond with some new people senior year - in other words, they're
basically fraternities. At the meetings the main activity is, as my sister the
social worker calls it, "oversharing" personal information and feelings. They
are basically social organizations whose purpose is to put students in touch
with classmates who are compatible in personality/interests that they might not
necessarily have met previously. Here's what I have found out: there are many
secret societies, not just the famous ones with streetfront "tombs." Meeting
places of most are, duh, secret. I have a D at Yale, a rising senior who just
went through all the secret society tapping hoopla. Really, they are just rich,
selective fraternal organizations that have big buildings.not deeply rooted
conspiracy hubs. My only direct experience is having the power cut in my dorm
the night before a Spansh exam because one of them was tapping someone.I got a
B- on that exam, thanks to them. (I know tidbits from overhearing conversations,
and one of my friends stole a guidebook from Manuscript, which had A LOT of
information), but movies and television shows make them seem a lot more romantic
than they actually are. It's kind of neat to see their history, etc. I lived
across the street from Scroll and Key, and the guy who lived in the room next to
me was in Skull and Bones, which was what really dispelled the whole myth of
them only choosing 'the best of the best' or being something to fear or seek.
The only people who do care about them are Freshman who think they're neat in
the first few months of the year, a very small amount of frat boys seeking
entrance, and those actually in them. Societies have almost no influence on
campus or in most students' lives.

Sort and stack the remaining federation tokens by type and place these six piles
next to the game board with their green sides faceup.Įxception: The 12 VP
federation tokens have two gray sides. Randomly take one federation token from
those remaining and place it on level 5 of the "Terraforming" research area. Set
aside the federation token shown to the right this is the Gleens faction's
federation token. Return the unused advanced tech tiles to the box. Randomly
place one advanced tech tile faceup on each space between level 4 and 5 of the
six research areas. Then stack the remaining standard tech tiles on the placed
tiles of the same type this will give you nine piles of four identical tech
tiles. Take the nine standard tech tiles with green marks on the back and
randomly place each of them faceup on a different tech space of the research
board. Place the research board next to the game board. Return the unused sector
tiles to the box. Make sure that sector tiles 05, 06, and 07 are outlined-side
up. Setup For 1 And 2 PlayersĪssemble the game board by taking sector tiles 01
to 07 and placing them as shown below. Make sure that sector tiles 05, 06, and
07 are solid-side up.

Game Board Setup For 3 And 4 PlayersĪssemble the game board by taking all 10
sector tiles and placing them as shown below. That player takes the first player
marker. For future games, also use the Advanced Setup, which features a variable
game board and all factions.ĭetermine a first player using the method of your
choice.

 * 7 double-sided Faction Boards Each side shows a different faction.
 * In the end, only the best developed faction will win. In addition, you will
   need to research and discover new technologies to improve your skills. The
   choice is yours: will you expand near other factions, which might give you
   power and trade partners, or will you look for solitude, where you can expand
   more freely? These needs have led the factions to master terraforming,
   enabling them to make different planet types habitable for themselves.ĭuring
   the game, you will colonize new planets, upgrade mines into better
   structures, and unite planets to form federations.
