Six members of the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) community will
be honored at the 2022 NYITCOM Alumni Awards Dinner, featuring world-renowned
chef Lidia Matticchio Bastianich.

The evening includes a cocktail reception and sit-down dinner menu created by
Lidia and New York Tech Director of Dining Services Robert Rizzuto.

LIDIA MATTICCHIO BASTIANICH



Lidia Matticchio Bastianich is an Emmy award-winning public television host,
best‐selling cookbook author, successful restaurateur, and owner of a
flourishing food and entertainment business. Most importantly, she has
accomplished all of this by marrying her two passions in life—her family and
food—to create multiple culinary endeavors alongside her two children, Joseph
and Tanya.

Lidia has published numerous cookbooks, co-authored with her daughter Tanya, and
companion books to her Emmy-winning television series Lidia’s Kitchen, Lidia’s
Italy in America, and Lidia’s Italy. Her most recent book is Lidia’s A Pot, A
Pan, and a Bowl, a companion to her new 26-part public television series,
Lidia’s Kitchen:  Home Cooking. She is also the author of the English and
Italian version of her memoir: My American Dream: A Life of Love, Family, and
Food. Lidia’s cooking shows air nationwide in the U.S. on public television and
CREATE, internationally, and on various digital networks including Amazon Prime,
Tubitv, and Xumo. Her cooking segments are also part of her TUTTOLIDIA YouTube
channel.

Lidia is a celebrated chef and restaurateur and a partner in Eataly NYC,
Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Dallas, Las Vegas, Toronto, and Sao Paolo, Brazil.
Together with Tanya and son-in-law Corrado, she also developed a line of
artisanal pastas and all-natural sauces called LIDIA’S.

Lidia is a member of Les Dames D’Escoffier and founding member of Women Chefs
and Restaurateurs, two non-profit organizations of women leaders in the food and
hospitality industries. She is also a champion for the United Nations
Association of the United States of America’s Adopt-A-Future program, in support
of refugee education.

Among the numerous awards and accolades Lidia has earned are seven James Beard
Awards (Outstanding Chef, Television Food Show, Best Chefs in America, Who’s Who
of Food & Beverage in America, Specials 2016, Special 2017 and 2018) and two
Emmy Awards for Outstanding Culinary Host (2013 and 2018).

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS:
DANIEL FERRARA (D.O. ’86)



Daniel Ferrara, D.O., a resident of Upper Brookville, N.Y., is northeast
regional president for Alteon Health, a physician-led organization that supports
some of the most respected health systems in the United States. With more than
1,700 clinicians serving more than 125 practice locations nationwide, Alteon is
a leading provider of emergency medicine, hospitalist medicine, critical care,
post-acute care, and virtual and home health services.

Prior to joining Alteon in 2017, Dr. Ferrara spent nearly 15 years with Island
Medical Physicians, PC, of which he was founder and chief executive officer.
Passionate about emergency medicine, he started the practice with a goal to
provide the highest level of care to patients, regardless of the hospital or
emergency room they had been admitted to. Dr. Ferrara has served as chairman of
the department of emergency medicine at South Nassau Communities Hospital, New
Island Hospital, and Massapequa General Hospital. He also served as the clinical
director of emergency medicine at SUNY Stony Brook and was an emergency medicine
physician at Huntington Hospital.

Dr. Ferrara completed his emergency medicine residency at Lincoln Medical and
Mental Health Center in the Bronx, N.Y., and his osteopathic medicine residency
at The Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. He earned a B.S. in
Biology at Allegheny College, Meadville, Penn. Dr. Ferrara is currently co-Vice
Chairman of the New York Institute of Technology Board of Trustees and a member
of the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine
(NYITCOM) Dean’s Advisory Board.

JASON GOLBIN (D.O. ’00)

St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, N.Y., from 2013 to 2017.
During that time, Dr. Golbin was also the director of medical education at St.
Catherine. Prior to this role, he practiced as a pulmonary/critical care/sleep
physician on Long Island, and was associate director of critical care at Good
Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, N.Y.

Dr. Golbin is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical
Care, Sleep Medicine, Neurocritical Care, Health Care Quality and Management,
and Medical Quality. He has obtained certification as a Physician Executive, as
well as in Patient Safety, Patient Experience, and from the Joint Commission. He
is also a certified Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt. Dr. Golbin has published a number
of peer-reviewed journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters, and presents at
national meetings. He completed his undergraduate degree in biology at
Binghamton University, a master of science in Physiology and Biophysics at
Georgetown University. He graduated from New York Institute of Technology
College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he currently holds the rank of clinical
associate professor of medicine and teaches pulmonary medicine. Dr. Golbin
completed his residency and chief residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York
City, and his fellowship at Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minn., where he was the
Burgher Family Fellow in Pulmonary Diseases. He completed his M.B.A. at Adelphi
University, where he was elected to the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. Dr.
Golbin is a member of the New York Institute of Technology College of
Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) Dean’s Advisory Board.


YOUNG ALUMNUS:
ALEXANDER NELLO (D.O. ’18)



Alexander Nello, D.O. is an Emergency Medicine attending physician and Emergency
Ultrasound fellow at Northwell Health North Shore University Hospital in
Manhasset, N.Y. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Binghamton
University in 2012 and 2014, respectively.

He graduated from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic
Medicine in 2018. Subsequently, he completed his Emergency Medicine residency at
Northwell Health North Shore University Hospital, where he was chief resident
during his final year of training. Dr. Nello was born and raised on Long Island,

SAMANTHA GOTTLIEB (D.O. ’20)



Samantha Faryn Gottlieb, D.O. is an Anesthesiology resident at St. Joseph's
University Medical Center in Paterson, N.J. and is set to complete her training
in June 2024. She completed a transitional year residency program in June 2021
at Lincoln Medical Center in the Bronx, N.Y.

Dr. Gottlieb received her Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from New York
Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) in April 2020.
Samantha also earned an M.S. in Neuromusculoskeletal Sciences after completing
NYITCOM's Academic Medicine Scholars Program. While at NYITCOM, she was one of
the founders of the Healing Path that runs through the center of campus and was
the Student Government Association president. Dr. Gotltieb also has a B.S. in
General Biology and a Minor in Sustainability Studies from the University of
Maryland. She is from Woodbury, N.Y. and currently resides in New York City with
her husband, Dr. Zachary Feuer.


EXCELLENCE IN MEDICINE:
LAWRENCE CRESSWELL (D.O. ’06)



Lawrence Cresswell III, D.O., J.D., is board certified in Emergency Medicine and
currently serves as the director of investigations of the Louisiana State Board
of Medical Examiners. After graduating from New York Institute of Technology
College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2006, Dr. Cresswell completed his residency
in Emergency Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University, where he later served
as chief resident.

Lawrence then headed to New Orleans, La., where he worked at Ochsner Medical
Center, New Orleans East Hospital, East Jefferson General Hospital, and the New
Orleans VA Medical Center. He has served as medical director for the Department
of Emergency Medicine at both Ochsner Baptist Medical Center and New Orleans
East Hospital. In addition to being a full-time emergency physician, Dr.
Cresswell also earned a law degree from Loyola University.
