Most mortgage products have become so standardized that fulfillment processes are now completely automated. Success in the business of mortgage origination, like most other businesses that sell a commodity, is based largely on pricing. So as an MLO, if you want the best rates and prices you go to a mortgage brokerage firm and if you want service, technology, and support you go to the large mortgage banks – these have been the main two choices in the industry, until now.
