WEBNET – EFFECTIVE & AESTHETIC BRIDGE SAFETY

Ensuring the safety of people using a bridge – protecting them from accidental
falls and preventing suicide attempts – without compromising its design
integrity, has long been a challenge for architects and engineers. Within bridge
safety, several considerations must be taken into account and weighed against
each other – including safety, strength, durability, maintenance, aesthetics and
transparency. Until now, this has always led to compromises having to be made.

However, following the introduction of Webnet wire mesh from Jakob, engineers
and designers are now able to meet these previously incompatible requirements.
In particular, bridge parapets can be fully-enclosed with no detriment to visual
appearance – and with little impact on views from the bridge. Additionally, a
Webnet system which runs under the parapet of the bridge can act as an effective
and non-invasive fall-arrest solution, again with minimal visual interference.

And as Webnet is manufactured from 316 stainless steel, both durability and
long-life performance are assured, leading to a long design life with low
maintenance requirements.
