The Mobile Security Key feature on the HSBC HK App makes logging on to HSBC
Digital Banking easier, more secure, and seamless for you.

Remember to stay alert and watch out for phishing SMSes, emails, and fraudulent
websites. We will never send any SMS or email with a link requesting you to log
on to HSBC Online Banking.

 

We have further strengthened our security measures to protect our customers.
After activating your Mobile Security Key, you may need to further verify your
identity before you can enjoy full access to HSBC Online and Mobile Banking
services.

 

You may be required to verify your identity if we detect any suspicious activity
on your HSBC HK App, HSBC Online Banking, HSBC Reward+ and HSBC Easy Invest.
You'll see a page/ message about it on the HSBC HK App. We'll also notify you
via SMS and email.

SET UP THE HSBC HK APP

Whether you're new to HSBC Digital Banking services or have only used HSBC
Online Banking, you can set up the HSBC HK App in just a few simple steps.
Please keep your valid mobile number and email address updated on your bank
record.




I AM NEW TO HSBC DIGITAL BANKING 

You can register for HSBC HK App, HSBC HK Easy Invest, and HSBC Reward+ all at
once simply with your HKID / passport and a selfie.

Tips:

 * Get your adult HKID / passport ready (same as your bank record)
   - New Smart HKID (2018 version)
   - Supported passports: Australia, Belgium, Canada, India, Ireland, Italy,
   Jersey, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, United Kingdom, United
   States, Vietnam and Taiwan
   
   Not holding an eligible HKID or passport? Find out how to register with your
   account details.
   
 * Start your registration in a private place with good lighting




REGISTER WITH YOUR HKID / PASSPORT



Step 1: Download and launch the latest version of the HSBC HK App. Select 'Log
on' and then select 'No, register now'.

Tip:

If you don't own an HSBC account, you can open one via the HSBC HK App and
register for Digital Banking right away.



Step 2: Select 'Continue' and proceed to verify your identity with your HKID /
passport.

Tip:

If you're not holding an eligible HKID / passport, you can find out how to
register with your account details.



Step 3: Enter your HKID / passport details.



Step 4: Take a photo of your original HKID / passport against a plain background
with good lighting.

Tip:

Please make sure your HKID / passport is captured in the frame and in focus.



Step 5: Take a selfie against a plain background with good lighting.

Tip:

Please make sure your selfie is captured in the frame and in focus.



Step 6: Complete SMS verification.



Step 7: Then, we'll ask you to set up the following:

 * Username: It is a unique identification for you to log on to the HSBC HK App
   or HSBC Online Banking.
 * Password: You will need to use it to set up the HSBC HK App or log on to HSBC
   Online Banking.
 * Security question and answer: You have to set up a security question and
   answer which can help you reset your password in the future. Please select a
   question and answer you can remember.



Step 8: Finally, we'll ask you to create a 6-digit Mobile Banking PIN and you
may also enable biometric authentication on supported devices for faster and
more seamless access.

Tips:

We'll complete your identity verification swiftly and you may log on to the HSBC
HK App right away. 

We may need more time to verify your identity in edge cases, but we'll notify
you of the result within 24 hours via SMS and email. Upon successful identity
verification, you can relaunch the app to log on.




REGISTER WITH YOUR ACCOUNT DETAILS



Step 1: Download and launch the latest version of the HSBC HK App. Select 'Log
on', ‘No, register now', 'Continue' and then 'Other methods' to proceed to
verify your identity with your account details.


Tip:

If you do not own an HSBC account, you can open one via the HSBC HK App and
register for Digital Banking right away.



Step 2: Select 'Account details and one-time verification code' and choose a way
to verify your identity.



Step 3: Provide your account details and ID document details.



Step 4: Complete SMS verification



Step 5: Then, we'll ask you to set up the following:

 * Username: It is a unique identification for you to log on to the HSBC HK App
   or HSBC Online Banking.
 * Password: You will need to use it to set up the HSBC HK App or log on to HSBC
   Online Banking.
 * Security question and answer: You have to set up a security question and
   answer which can help you reset your password in the future. Please select a
   question and answer you can remember.



Step 6: Finally, we'll ask you to create a 6-digit Mobile Banking PIN and you
may also enable biometric authentication on supported devices for faster and
more seamless access.

I AM USING HSBC ONLINE BANKING, BUT NEW TO THE HSBC HK APP 

You just need to download and set up the HSBC HK App simply with your HKID /
passport and a selfie*.

Tips:

 * Get your adult HKID / passport ready (same as your bank record)
   - New Smart HKID (2018 version)
   - Supported passports: Australia, Belgium, Canada, India, Ireland, Italy,
   Jersey, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, United Kingdom, United
   States, Vietnam and Taiwan
   
   Not holding an eligible HKID or passport? Find out how to set up the HSBC HK
   App with your online banking credentials.
 * Start setting up the HSBC HK App in a private place with good lighting

*After setting up the HSBC HK App, your Physical Security Device will be
disabled to protect your account.

Step 1: Download and launch the latest version of the HSBC HK App. Select 'Log
on' and then select 'Yes, logon'.

Tip:

We'll ask you to create a password if you haven't set one up yet.



Step 2: Enter your username and date of birth.

Tip:

To update your date of birth, please visit any HSBC branch in Hong Kong along
with your ID document so our staff can help process your request.



Step 3: Select 'Continue' and proceed to verify your identity with your HKID /
passport.

Tip:

If you're not holding an eligible HKID / passport, you can find out how to set

In edge cases, we may need more time to verify your identity but we'll notify

Step 1: Download and launch the latest version of the HSBC HK App. Select 'Log
on' and then select 'Yes, logon' to continue to log on.

Tip:

We'll ask you to create a password if you haven't set one up yet.



Step 2: Enter your username and date of birth.

Tip:

To update your date of birth, please visit any HSBC branch in Hong Kong along
with your ID document so our staff can help process your request.



Step 3: Select 'Don't have your HKID' or 'Don't have your passport' and proceed
to verify your identity with your online banking credentials.

VERIFYING YOUR IDENTITY

To better protect the security of your accounts, you may be asked to verify your
identity when required (such as after having activated the Mobile Security Key)
to enjoy full access to HSBC Digital Banking services.




VERIFY YOUR IDENTITY 

To strengthen security measures for protecting our customers, after you've
activated the Mobile Security Key via the HSBC HK App on a new device (including
removing and reinstalling the HSBC HK App on your existing device), you may need
to further verify your identity before you can enjoy full access to HSBC Online
and Mobile Banking services.

The following services on HSBC Online and Mobile Banking may be affected if you
do not verify your identity:

 * Transfers to non-registered third-party accounts
 * Bill payments to certain merchants
 * Adding new payees for local transfers and HSBC Global Transfers
 * Changing transfer limits (including small value and non-registered account
   transfer limits)
 * Viewing your debit card CVV
 * Changing personal information
 * Mobile cash withdrawal

The above verification requirement doesn't apply to customers who are setting up
the Mobile Banking PIN on an existing device with the Mobile Security Key
already activated on the HSBC HK App.

You can verify your identity using any of these methods:

HSBC HK App

After you've activated your Mobile Security Key via the HSBC HK App on a new
device for 24 hours, you may be prompted to verify your identity using a
one-time password (OTP) sent to you via SMS when you log on to the HSBC HK App.
Alternatively, you can also go to the 'Profile' tab on the HSBC HK App to verify
your identity (HSBC HK App >  'Profile'  > 'Security' > 'Verify identity').

HSBC/ Hang Seng ATM

After you've activated your Mobile Security Key via the HSBC HK App, you may use
any HSBC/ Hang Seng ATM (excluding Foreign Currency ATMs and Express ATMs) in
Hong Kong to verify your identity (ATM > ’Other services‘ > ‘Verify identity
after Mobile Security Key activation').

You may be required to verify your identity if we detect any suspicious
activities on your HSBC HK App, HSBC Online Banking, HSBC Reward+ and HSBC Easy
Invest. You'll see a page/ message about it on the HSBC HK App. We'll also
notify you via SMS and email.

You may follow the instructions seen on the page / message on the HSBC HK App or
in our communications to verify your identity to restore full access to our
digital banking services. Learn more.


MANAGE / SWITCH DEVICE

When you log on to the HSBC HK App for the first time or are using a new device,
you'll be asked to create a 6-digit Mobile Banking PIN for the device. For
security reasons, you can only set up the HSBC HK App on one device. You may
remove linked devices on the HSBC HK App or Online Banking to free up space for
your new device.

Please note, after setting up the HSBC HK App, you may need to further verify
your identity before you can enjoy full access to HSBC Online and Mobile Banking
services.




IF YOU HAVE YOUR OLD DEVICE 

To set up the HSBC HK App on your new device, you have to remove the device no
longer in use. This can be done easily.



Step 1: Launch the HSBC HK App on your old device, select the 'Profile' icon at
the top right corner, and then select 'Security'.



Step 2: Select 'Manage Security'



Step 3: Select 'Delete' to remove HSBC HK App from your old device. Then, you
may download HSBC HK App on your new device, log on and set up Mobile Security
Key





I DO NOT HAVE MY OLD DEVICE 

If you do not have your old device, you may use Online Banking to remove HSBC HK
App from the device no longer in use:



Step 1: Log on to HSBC Online Banking, select 'Banking' > 'Security Setting' >
'Manage your Security Device'



Step 2: Select 'Remove Device' to remove HSBC HK App from your old device. Then,
you may download HSBC HK App on your new device, log on and set up Mobile
Security Key






RESET 'MOBILE BANKING PIN' / PASSWORD

What should I do if I have forgotten my logon credentials for Digital Banking?
Do not worry, you may use HSBC HK App or Online Banking to reset them easily.




I FORGOT MY 'MOBILE BANKING PIN' 

You can reset your 'Mobile Banking PIN' in just a few steps on HSBC HK App:



Step 1: Select 'Log on with PIN' on the logon screen, then select 'Forgot your
PIN?'



Step 2: Reset your 'Mobile Banking PIN' according to the instructions

Please note, your new Mobile Banking PIN should not include:

 1. the same number more than once in a row, e.g. 000
 2. more than three ascending or descending digits, e.g. 1234
 3. repeating patterns, e.g. 010101
 4. your birthday or any other significant dates (like anniversaries), e.g.
    270788



Step 3: You will see on-screen confirmation once you have successfully reset
Mobile Banking PIN. We'll also send you confirmation via SMS and email (if
available).



Tip:


If you have forgotten both password and 'Mobile Banking PIN', you should first
recover your password.




I FORGOT MY PASSWORD/ SECURITY QUESTION 

You can reset your password/ security question in just a few steps on HSBC HK
App:



Step 1: Select 'Forgotten your password?' on the password input screen



Step 2: Input your account number, ATM PIN, and identity verification documents



Step 3: Complete SMS verification



Step 4: Reset your password, security question and answer according to the
instructions



Step 5: You will see on-screen confirmation once you have successfully reset
Mobile Banking PIN. We'll also send you confirmation via SMS and email (if
available).



Tip: 


You can also use HSBC Online Banking to reset your password (HSBC website > Log
on > select 'Forgotten your password?' on your password input screen)




I WANT TO CHANGE MY 'MOBILE BANKING PIN' 

You can change your 'Mobile Banking PIN' in just a few steps on HSBC HK App:



Step 1: Open HSBC HK App, select the Profile icon at the top right corner, then
select 'Security'



Step 2: Select 'Manage security'



Step 3: Select 'Change PIN' and input your Mobile Banking PIN.



Step 4: Create a new 6-digit 'Mobile Banking PIN'






GENERATE SECURITY CODE FROM THE HSBC HK APP

After you've set up the HSBC HK App, you may use the Mobile Security Key feature
at the bottom of the log-on screen right away to generate a security code to log
on to HSBC Online Banking, verify your online transaction or re-authenticate.




I WANT TO GENERATE A SECURITY CODE 

Step 1: Open HSBC HK App. At the bottom of the logon screen (before logging on),
select 'Generate security code'



Step 2: Follow your transaction's instructions to select the relevant security
code type

 * Log on
 * Transaction verification
 * Re-authenticate



Step 3: Enter your Mobile Banking PIN or use biometric authentication.



Step 4: Generate the security code, and input the code according to the
instructions of HSBC Online or Digital Banking

 

Tips:

You will generate an invalid security code under the following situations:

 * You have used an incorrect 'Mobile Banking PIN' on HSBC HK App (You can avoid
   this by using biometric authentication)
 * The time zone of your mobile device is not set to 'automatic' (You can go to
   your phone setting screen to adjust your time zone setting)
 * Your Mobile Security Key on HSBC HK App has been removed





LOG ON TO HSBC ONLINE BANKING

We have enhanced our security measures on HSBC Online Banking to protect your
account from unauthorised access. You must create a Personal Internet Banking
password before you can continue using HSBC Online Banking.

Also, if you are using an untrusted browser, you will receive a notification and
be asked to confirm whether to trust the browser on this device. Trusting your
browser means we will know it is you logging on, and you can do so seamlessly
without additional verification in the future, but you should do this only if
you are using a personal computer.




LOG ON WITH SECURITY CODE (ON UNTRUSTED BROWSER) 

You may log on to HSBC Online Banking with a security code generated from your
HSBC HK App:



Step 1: Go to HSBC HK website ('Log on' > 'HSBC Online Banking'). Enter your
username



Step 2: Enter your password



Step 3: Choose to use either security code or SMS to verify your access

Tips:

you will need to use security code for a full coverage of services



Step 4: Generate a security code from HSBC HK App on your mobile phone and enter
the security code before it expires



Step 5: You will be required to confirm whether to trust the browser on this
device or not

Tips:

You should trust browsers only on your personal electronic devices. Please avoid
doing so on public devices, such as computers in cafes and libraries. You may
not be able to trust your browser if it is in private/incognito mode, you've
blocked cookies in browser settings, or use any browser that will clear cookies
automatically.



Tips:


You will generate an invalid security code under the following situations:

username



Step 2: Generate a security code from HSBC HK App on your mobile phone and enter
the security code before it expires

You may also log on with your Personal Internet Banking password instead of
security code on a trusted browser, however, your access will be limited for
security concerns.



Tips:


You will generate an invalid security code under the following situations:

 * You have used an incorrect 'Mobile Banking PIN' on HSBC HK App (You can avoid
   this by using biometric authentication )
 * The time zone of your mobile device is not set to 'automatic' (You can go to
