[SGC/IAC 2023] AHAMENES – CUBESPACE SCHOLARSHIPS

Home/Scholarships/[SGC/IAC 2023] AHAMENES – CubeSpace Scholarships
[SGC/IAC 2023] AHAMENES – CubeSpace Scholarships

SGAC has partnered with CubeSpace Satellite Systems to bring 3 (three) students
or young professionals to attend the 21st Space Generation Congress: 28 – 30
September 2023 and the 74th International Astronautical Congress: 2 – 6 October
2023, in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Application Deadline: 30 July 2023, 23:59 CET

DESCRIPTION

The Space Generation Congress (SGC) is the annual meeting of the Space
Generation Advisory Council always held in conjunction with the International
Astronautical Congress (IAC) at the same hosting Country. The Delegates are ~150
top university students and young professionals with a passion for space. They
are selected with a highly competitive application process open to our Space
Generation international network. With SGC, SGAC aims to promote the voice of
the next generation of space sector leaders on the topic of international space
development.

By attending the Space Generation Congress (SGC), delegates will learn, share
their knowledge, network with fellow students and young professionals in the
space industry, and meet the industry’s leaders and experts.

All output produced by the Space Generation Congress (SGC) is compiled into a
report to be presented at the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of
Outer Space, as well as other conferences around the World.

AWARD

The total value of the scholarship is USD 2200, which will go towards supporting
a student/young professional to attend the SGC and IAC 2023.

The award will be used to cover expenses up to a maximum amount of USD 2,200
incurred to attend the two events mentioned above (round trip travel via economy
airfare, accommodations, visa costs, and registration fees according to the
reimbursement policy).

HOW TO APPLY

To apply, you will need to prepare a 2 minute video in which you answer the
following two questions:

 1. How will you leverage your expertise to support the growth of the African
    space industry?
 2. What do you aim to achieve during the SGC and IAC that will launch your
career in the space sector which will impact your country or Africa? And why
    are SGC/IAC the ideal conferences?

All submissions must be made by using the Scholarship Submission form at the
bottom of this page before 30 July 2023, 23:59 GMT.

Your submission should follow the competition guidelines below.

GUIDELINES

ELIGIBILITY

 * The language of all submissions must be in English.
 * The competition is open to all students and young professionals from African
   countries.
 * Participants must be eligible SGAC members (registered on the SGAC website)
between the age of 18 and 35 years as of the 30th of September, 2023.
 * Participants must have not attended any SGC or IAC before.
 * Competition judges are ineligible for the award.
 * Winners should not receive support from any other source to the event. Should
the winners receive such support midway through the program, SGAC should be
informed and a solution will be sought

In the interest of spreading opportunities to more members, SGAC reserves the
right to prioritise applicants who have not recently received another SGAC
scholarship of a similar nature. “Recently” is defined as having received a
travel grant in the past 2 years, in the same category (either international or
regional/national) as this posted award. International awards include
scholarships for international events such as SGC/IAC, SGFF and Space Symposium,
while regional/national awards refer to events, such as the Space Generation
Workshops (SGW), national space generation events (SG[country]) or other
regional or national conferences. In the event that the SGC 2021 is forced to be
held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this scholarship will not be counted
as an international travel grant, and winners are eligible to apply for another
travel grant in the next 2 years.

In case of a lack of quality of submissions, SGAC and CubeSpace have the right
to extend and or cancel the competition.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE WINNERS

 1. The winners will be responsible for assisting with running the Space
Generation Congress if necessary, acting as rapporteur for their discussion
group, assisting with the compilation of the SGC final report, and attending
    the IAC.
 2. Winners will be asked to record a video about their experience at SGC and
IAC, which may be showcased in the SGAC newsletter, social media, or
    website.
 3. Represent SGAC at the SGAC booth at IAC at assigned time slots.

REIMBURSEMENT

 1. The award will be paid out after the event and upon fulfilment of all
requirements in a suitable manner, as determined by the scholarship
coordinators, including any report submissions and submissions of expense
    claims.
 2. The scholarship award reimbursement is conditioned on the awardee fulfilling
the scholarship requirements not later than November 6th 2023.
 3. If applicants receive funding for the 2023 SGC and/or the 74th IAC from any
other organization, the scholarship coordinators must be informed. If
applicants do not inform the scholarship coordinators, SGAC reserves the
right to refuse reimbursement to the applicants if they become winners. SGAC
aims to reduce the number of double scholarships and will work with the
winners to develop a solution in these cases.
 4. Reimbursements will follow the SGAC Scholarships Travel Policy &
Reimbursement Guidelines. Applicants are advised not to incur any expenses
until they have formal confirmation that the grant has been awarded. SGAC is
not liable for any expenses incurred by applicants in any case where
competition is not awarded, or in excess of the value of the awarded grant.

Please visit SGAC Scholarships Reimbursement Form for the reimbursement form and
additional information on the reimbursement process.

COPYRIGHT AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

 1. By submitting an entry, applicants agree to permit the SGAC, CubeSpace and
other participating organisations to use their names, affiliations, and
headshot photo in connection with the scholarship. This also applies to the
essay that is submitted: portions of this essay could be used for
promotional purposes (the authors, of course, will be credited for the
    content).
 2. Copyright of the submitted entry shall remain with the contestants. However,
by submitting an entry all contestants agree that SGAC and all affiliated
organisers are granted non-exclusive reproduction rights regarding all
submitted papers. SGAC and all affiliated organisers may also present ideas
and findings generated by this competition at relevant conferences.

LIABILITY

 1. Organizers will not be responsible in the event that the 2023 SGC and/or
74th IAC is cancelled. SGAC will not reimburse the winners, even if they
    have already incurred expenses.
 2. SGAC will not be responsible in the event that the award winner fails to
attend the 2023 SGC and/or 74th IAC. In this case, the award offer will
    become void.
 3. SGAC will not be responsible in the event that the award winner is not able
to obtain the necessary travel documents to attend the events. If the
documents are required but not obtained, the award offer will become void.
 4. The award is not transferable to another event or individual.

EVALUATION

Applications will be evaluated by a panel of CubeSpace representatives based on
the answers provided to the aforementioned questions.

We look forward to your contribution and thank you for taking part in this space
endeavour!
