Combine this The Very Hungry Caterpillar bingo game with a reading of the popular children’s story by Eric Carle. It’s the perfect addition to your The Very Hungry Caterpillar teaching ideas. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a beloved children’s book that has been enjoyed for many generations. The story follows the adventures of a caterpillar as it eats its way through various food on his journey from egg to caterpillar to butterfly. Kids will have fun playing a Bingo game inspired by one of their favorite picture books. This is a fun activity that can be played in a group setting. Kids can play this game with a teacher or on their own. This activity is great for preschool, kindergarten, and early elementary aged students. It can be used at home, in the classroom, or during story time at the library. VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR BINGO Playing this classic game with children is a great way to keep them entertained and engaged. Not only that, but it can also help teach them some important skills. FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS Games are a great way to get students engaged and interested in learning, and they can also be helpful for teaching important skills like following directions. TAKING TURNS If children play this game in a small group setting, they’ll practice taking turns. Place the calling cards facedown in the center of the group. Children will take turns flipping over a card for each child to search for on their card. VISUAL DISCRIMINATION To play bingo, students will match the images on their cards to those called out by the teacher. As they search for the correct object, students must pay close attention to detail. This helps them to learn how to discriminate between similar objects. PREPARING THE ACTIVITY To prepare this game, print the pages on cardstock and laminate for durability. Cut apart the calling cards. WHAT’S INCLUDED? This game pack includes five Hungry Caterpillar bingo boards, two pages of Hungry Caterpillar calling cards, and an instruction page. HOW TO PLAY This game can be played with 2-5 players. Each player will need a bingo card. All five cards in this pack are different. Designate a caller. The teacher can be the caller, or kids can take turns choosing a card and turning it over. If the player has the image from the calling card on their bingo board, they will cover the image with a button, penny, or other small object. The first to cover three in a row (or cover the entire board) is the winner. THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR PRINTABLES If your children enjoy this printable, be sure to check out these printables.
