DEVELOPING COMMUNITY-BASED HEALTHCARE

WHERE THEY NEED IT MOST

BECAUSE THE HEALTH OF COMMUNITIES IN DEVELOPING REGIONS BEGINS FROM WITHIN.

Our Vision

Medic Outpost is dedicated to improving medical care in remote areas that have
long been ravaged by conflict, famine, and inadequate infrastructure. Centered
on training and equipping remote first responders from within the communities
they serve, Medic Outpost’s innovative approach saves lives, increases
opportunities, and raises healthcare standards in remote areas. In partnership
with local organizations and leaders, we’re empowering community members to take
ownership of, and contribute to, their area’s healthcare system and collective
well-being.

HOW WE ARE DOING?

Medic Outpost is making an impact in remote areas in the developing world. Our
Afya Kids Project in Kenya provides treatment for intestinal worms and health
education to children in the slums that surround Nairobi.

Medic Outpost’s work in Mexico centers around developing community-based
healthcare by empowering the community. Our Community First Responder courses
often develop the only healthcare response available in isolated villages. Medic
Outpost is committed to children’s health and our birthing and midwife training
and equipment for traditional midwives save countless lives each year.

 * 42,959 Children treated for intestinal worms

Intestinal worms are one of the biggest barriers to health and development in
   the slums that surround Nairobi.

 * 32,234 Children taught Afya Kids First Aid

Very young children in the developing world are cared for most often by
siblings ages 7 to 9 years old. Afya Kids first aid was developed to train
them to take care of the younger children in life treating situations while
   parents are away.

 * 13,478 Children under six years old taught Hygiene and disease prevention

The very young in developing countries are often ill solely because of poor
hygiene and disease prevention. Outpost programs focus on teaching hand
washing, drinking water safety, and germ education.

 * 1489 Community First Responders in Mexico

Community-based emergency response provides the foundation for developing
long-term healthcare in remote villages. Each community receives a complete
   first responder medical bag.

 * 230 Traditional midwives trained and equipped

Traditional midwives receive little or no training from Mexican healthcare
systems. They learn through trial and error. Outpost provides modern training
and the resuscitation equipment for them do decrease newborn mortality.

 * 128 Doctors and nurses trained in Neonatal Resuscitation

Rural clinic staff receives advanced newborn resuscitation training from
Outpost and is provided with the most modern and complete resuscitation
   medical kits available.

“IMPOVERISHED PEOPLE IN REMOTE REGIONS OF THE WORLD ARE READY TO PLAY A PART IN
THEIR HEALTHCARE BUT THEY LACK THE NECESSARY TOOLS AND EDUCATION. WE BELIEVE THE
SOLUTION EXISTS WITHIN THE COMMUNITIES THEMSELVES – IF WE EQUIP RESIDENTS TO
SERVE AS FIRST RESPONDERS, WE CAN TRAIN THEM TO BE STEWARDS OF THEIR LONG-TERM
PREVENTIVE AND EMERGENCY CARE.”
