way to replenish the powers. Thor's Hammer grants Thora an increase in her heavy
attack damage, while Freya gives her the ability to move faster, Loki's power is
that of deception causing Thora's enemies to fight each other, Frigg's power can
heal a portion of Thora's life back, Heimdall's Shield grant a temporary
invincibility from attacks, while Odin's Spear is an arced range attack that
causes massive damage. To make Thora's experience with the boss fights easier,
she can earn God-like powers along the way. The bosses look amazing and are
imposing, and they fight equally as impressive, and is where most of the fun in
Jotun: Valhalla Edition derives from. Kaunan, the Fire Jotun, swings his
impressive blade, while creating shockwaves of flame and lava. Jera, the Nature
Jotun looks like an octopus with her tree-like tentacles, as she unleashes her
poisonous spores when she's not pounding the ground with her roots, while
Hagalaz, the Wind Jotun, splits herself into two, while she calls lightning from
the skies that must be avoided. While Thora's still slow and sluggish at times,
the boss fights are fast-paced and action packed. The five boss battles are the
exact opposite of each stage that precedes it in terms of pace and
repetitiveness. The stages themselves are also quite repetitive however, this is
contrasted by the boss battles where Jotun: Valhalla Edition really comes to
life. While evading is a great way to escape the clutches of evil, most of the
time it barely works, as evading still causes her to get hit, while the recovery
time after an axe swing seems like forever. The gameplay itself seems very slow,
from the way Thora moves to the way she swings her axe. However, all those stage
features simply serve as a wallpaper to hide the cracks. If a lot of the
terminology sounds very foreign, upon completing this game, they won't be.
Jormungandr's Lake features the Midgard Serpent, as he constantly threatens

passage to fight each of the world's bosses, the Jotun, while Mimir's well
serves as a one-time healing point for Thora.Įach stage is heavily centred on
drawing inspiration from the source material of Norse mythology, and it is
filled with clever ways of translating them into challenges that Thora must
overcome. The open-world maps require Thora to explore every nook and cranny, as
she searches for Ithunn's Apples, which increase her life bar each time, while
paying her respects at the shrines of the Gods grant her the use of their
respective God powers. The stages are split into five different themed worlds
that centre on nature, caves, ice, clouds and fire. However, the most important
part of the stage designs is that they actually look like they have lived the
history of the mythology.

The panoramic background shots do a perfect job in illustrating the scale of the
locations, while showing how small Thora is the grand scheme of things. Stages
contain stunning vistas that sometimes serve as the background or focal point of
that stage. Traverse Jormungandr's Lake where the son of Loki, the Midgard
Serpent, is constantly at her heels.Įach stage is beautifully envisioned in the
art style, with the same amount of love and care going into every single world.
Brokkr's Forge is a dark and grimy stage that is significant due to Thor's
hammer having been created there, while the Northern Sky requires Thora to light
up pylons in the shape of constellations.

The main location that acts as a hub world is the primordial void of chaos,
Ginnungagap, where the first Jotun, Ymir was created. Set in the heart of Norse
mythology, Jotun: Valhalla Edition recreates the various locations from the
mythos. This is a world built upon lots of history, with a sense of mystery
around every corner that is rewarded with scenes of wonder and awe.

The hand drawn art style is mesmerising, and the crisp animation is almost
seamless, except for a few graphical hiccups that happen along the way. Jotun:
Valhalla Edition is a beautiful and alluring adventure.

Ri-jin is dropped off in front of his house. Park to assign someone else, but he
doesn’t budge and bodily throws her out of his office. He shoves a
confidentiality agreement at her, and the name at the bottom is… Shin Se-gi.
Park tells her a VIP wants a home visit and specifically requested her. Park
(saved in her phone as as “Take a deep breath before answering”), who tells her
to get her butt to the hospital. Ri-jin lies in bed thinking about the
near-kiss, which makes her writhe in humiliation. Do-hyun says he’s thinking of
taking a gamble. He reiterates his warning: Se-gi’s girl had better remain safe,
if Do-hyun wants his girl to remain safe too.ĭo-hyun tears down the screen in a
rage, and Chief Ahn arrives just in time to hold him back from worse. In his
video, Se-gi rightly predicts everything Do-hyun probably just did, including
calling Chae-yeon to confirm her safety. She gets pettish at Do-hyun’s brotherly
concern. When she’s anxious for more about his cousin, he tells her Do-hyun
asked him never to leave her alone. He thanks Ki-joon profusely, and asks for a
favor. Before he can say anything, Do-hyun launches into worried questions about
her safety, but is relieved once he hears hyung was with her last night. He
checks her phone, and seeing it’s Do-hyun, takes it out of the room. He holds a
photo of Chae-yeon to the camera.Ĭhae-yeon’s phone rings while she sleeps,
waking up Ki-joon, next to her. For someone who’s such a coward, how did Do-hyun
dare to kiss his girl? Se-gi issues a warning: If Do-hyun messes with his girl,
Se-gi will mess with Do-hyun’s. He’s angry that Do-hyun stole away his happiest
time. “While I wasn’t here, you turned the house into a prison.” From a video,
Se-gi faces Do-hyun. He’s spooked.Ī voice greets him from behind - Se-gi’s. The
whole house is an angry wreck of broken furniture, the CCTV ripped to pieces.
Getting out of bed, he’s met by a mess of empty liquor bottles and cigarettes
all over the floor. Relieved to still be himself, he sits up - and is
immediately shocked by the words “KILL YOU” spray-painted on the facing wall.
The next morning, Do-hyun jolts awake in his bed. With that look in his eyes,
the man now in front of the mirror is Se-gi. He heads out of the bathroom.Īfter
he’s gone, the lights flicker and the room darkens. He faces his reflection and
a growing smile takes hold. Now home, Do-hyun ponders Ri-jin’s confession of her
confused feelings.

In the dog-house (ha), clinging to the family dog, Ri-jin wails in
self-reproach. Not far away, Do-hyun stops his car and tries to shake off what
just happened. Her protestations of innocence go unheard.

Ri-on’s parting shot is that she must be pretty embarrassed now the drink’s
subsided. Mom thinks she locked herself in the cellar on purpose to have her way
with Do-hyun and chastises her for being unclassy, while Dad chides her falling
for a pretty face too quickly. It’s uncomfortable, and the moment he’s out, the
smiles turn to frowns and the family rounds on her. Ri-jin hangs back, totally
soused, while their guest is sent off. Next thing we know, the family packs
Do-hyun’s car full of food. Seeing his sister wriggling on top of Do-hyun, he
bawls for Mom. He pulls back and they end up on the floor…and enter Ri-on.

To finish things, she puckers up and goes for him. He’s utterly taken aback, and
she carries on raging about him getting into her head. He tries to backtrack,
but she argues, “Even though I’m using my heart alone, it’s become confused!”
“Why did you stop?!” She yells at him, and tells him to finish what he was doing
because there’s something she needs to confirm too. Since he shares his one
heart with the other alters, he didn’t know who was reacting to her so he wanted
to check. Lol.Ī beat later, Ri-jin snaps out of it and grabs his collar, face
furious. Their pounding hearts get louder, and the moment before their lips
fiiiinally touch, Do-hyun flops, breaking it up. Agonizingly slowly, he leans in
towards her, and she closes her eyes. “Shall I make it so that you’re not
confused?” he offers. She tentatively asks, “Shin Se-gi?”ĭo-hyun grips her
shoulders and asks her if she’s still confused between them. Despite the danger,
we can still enjoy the family moments and the promise of friendship…eventually?
Maybe?ĭo-hyun and Ri-jin’s faces are inches apart, and both wonder to themselves
why their hearts are pounding - or in Ri-jin’s case, for whom. Both of our main
characters have to take a stand, but the threats loom big for Do-hyun, who not
only has to protect his peeps, but also himself. It’s time for Ri-jin to make
big choices (none of them involve kisses, sorry), but is it really up to her?

X-Box Series X: on the insideĬompared to previous generations, the Xbox Series X
sets a new benchmark for raw graphics power and processing speed. It worked with
our reference TV without a hitch. This allows you to power on/off and change the
volume of your TV through the console. It’s good to see that the Series X
supports the HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) standard to control
displays.

We just then needed to calibrate our High Dynamic Range (HDR) levels, but the
default state was pretty decent. This included a low-latency mode for a faster
response time and variable frame rate to avoid tearing and stuttering during
gameplay. The Xbox app is a great way to breeze through setup.įor connecting to
the TV, the Xbox Series X recognised our HDMI 2.1 compliant LG 65in CX 4K Smart
Cinema OLED TV and automatically applied the best video settings. At least this
isn’t as bad as re-downloading from the internet. At the time of writing, it
looks like we’ll need to install Assassin’s Creed: Origins from the CD. We just
had to re-install these via the internet. Also, The Witcher 3, copied but not
the DLCs, and we couldn’t load a saved game without them. It would just keep
failing during the process. However we did have some issues transferring some
games including Assassin’s Creed: Origins. Incompatible games didn’t appear in
the copy list, which is handy. Once linked, we could select the games that we
wanted to copy over the Wi-Fi network. Instead of re-downloading literally
hundreds of gigabytes, we used the wireless transfer option. We had a lot of
games stored on our previous Xbox One X. You can choose to import your previous
console’s settings too or set up as a new device. It will then update the
console as well as the controller. This includes connecting your Gamertag and
synching the Xbox Wireless Controller. Just choose the ‘set up a console’
setting and it will guide you through the process. New owners will be able to
fire up their new consoles quickly with the Xbox mobile app. This measures 39
cm tall, which may be too long or high to fit on many shelves and entertainment
units. However, the Playstation 5 is ‘the biggest console in modern history’
according to The Verge.

The Series X is 30.1 cm tall by 15.1 cm deep by 15.1 cm wide. Overall, the
design is by no means flamboyant, unlike the Playstation 5, and thankfully, not
as tall. When positioning your console, Microsoft recommends leaving 4
centimetres of space around it. There’s also a grill on the back for more heat
dissipation. We tested it at 40 decibels after an hour of gameplay. With the
device on, the fan doesn’t appear to make any more noise than the old model. On
the rear are all the standard ports such as an HDMI 2.1, Ethernet, two USB 3.1
connectors, memory expansion and a power plug. There’s a very large cooling fan
at the top, with some racy ‘Xbox green’ paint visible through the grille. The
Blu-ray drive works in both orientations, and otherwise the front of the
minimalist case is unobstructed, apart from an illuminated power button, eject
and sync buttons. You can either stand it up or rest it lengthwise thanks to
four rubber feet along one side. It has a similar volume to the Xbox Series One
and PlayStation 4 but is shaped more like a tall cube than a flat rectangle.

In terms of looks, the Series X doesn’t make too much of a statement. Meet the
family – Xbox Series X | S Xbox Series X – on the outside Once games have been
written natively for the latest Xbox consoles, then we’ll really see what this
generation is capable of. This generally includes increases in resolution, more
realistic lighting effects and higher frame rates. What we have are existing
games that have been enhanced for the new consoles. As games can take years to
create, there aren’t any truly ‘native’ titles ready right now. Another
important consideration is that initial impressions of the Series X’s gameplay
are inexorably linked to the quality of games available.
