In this talk Jason shares techniques he’s used to refactor code speedily while minimizing the chances anything breaks in the process. ABOUT JASON SWETT Jason Swett is a developer, speaker, trainer, author and host of The Rails with Jason podcast. Since putting his first website online in 1996, Jason has worked with organizations like AT&T, Lenovo, VMware, HP, Dow Jones, Deloitte, Kroger, Liberty Mutual and the University of Chicago. He has given talks or taught classes in several countries including the United States, India, The Netherlands, Bulgaria and Nigeria. Jason lives in Sand Lake, Michigan with his wife and two kids. JEN LUKER BUILDING ACCESSIBLE CAREERS There has been a huge push for accessibility to be part of external websites, but what about the internal tools we use every day? Jen will go over the reasons internal accessibility is important, where to start, and how small improvements can have a big impact on increasing diversity in our workplaces. ABOUT JEN LUKER Jen Luker is a Sr. Frontend Engineer, conference speaker, and BookBytes podcast co-host. She has spent the majority of her career as a full-stack developer using PHP, Javascript, and CSS, but has a particular fondness for frontend technologies. She is an advocate for both accessibility, and processes that make doing the right thing easy and the wrong thing hard. When she's not exploring solutions, learning new technologies, or reading, Jen's spare time is spent spinning yarn from raw wool and knitting; she's even been known to 3D print her own tools for the job. She is also fascinated by all things space, and IoT. ALESSANDRO DESANTIS EXTENSIONS ARE DEAD, LONG LIVE EXTENSIONS! Refactoring can make code easier to understand and safer to work with, but refactoring itself is often risky and time-consuming. In this talk Jason shares techniques he’s used to refactor code speedily while minimizing the chances anything breaks in the process. ABOUT ALESSANDRO DESANTIS Alessandro Desantis has worked for and advised numerous startups on what makes engineers happy and productive. More recently, he has been working for Nebulab, helping the team scale their consulting efforts and ensure the success of Solidus. SEAN DENNY COMMUNITY DRIVEN SOLIDUS The management of Solidus has largely been nailed down since the dissolution of Stembolt, but what does this new nonprofit, community-driven structure means for the platform long-term? This talk aims to address that questions - and provide an explanation as to why this will benefit the platform. ABOUT SEAN DENNY Sean Denny is CIO and lead developer at TubeDepot and serves as secretary for the Solidus Stakeholders group. He got his start in web development at the age of 11, learning HTML to build a Zelda fansite. His design skills have improved slightly since then. After work, Sean spends his time playing guitar, video games, and volunteering for various organizations such as Citizens Climate Education and GiveCamp. He was the organizer for last years Southeast Solidus, and is the lead organizer for this years SolidusConf 2019. ERNESTO TAGWERKER ESCAPING THE TAR PIT Nobody wants to inherit a project that reeks but here we are. Stuck in the tar pit. How can we get out? Could we have avoided it in the first place? In this talk, you will learn how to use a few, great Ruby gems that will guide you out of that sticky tar you are in. ABOUT ERNESTO TAGWERKER Ernesto is the Founder of Ombu Labs, a small software development company dedicated to building lean code. JOEL SAUPE SOLIDUS API - FROM PWAS TO NATIVE AND BEYOND In a world of JavaScript and native apps, how does Solidus fit in? ABOUT JOEL SAUPE Lead Software Engineer of Frontend Development at Deseret Book and certified pixel pusher. Otherwise found kickin' it with his family or running for extended periods of time. TAYLOR SCOTT TAKING SOLIDUS FROM DEVELOPMENT TO PRODUCTION This talk is focused on deploying a solidus application to a multi-container environment on Elasticbeanstalk in AWS. This also extends to DevOps creating CI pipelines and ensuring reliable testing and deployment.
